    #12 Jersey

    Seymour to join D&H at 11 a.m.

Seymour, who is a free agent, was recently quoted as saying he would sign with any team in the NFL except the Patriots. He played the 2009 season with the Oakland Raiders after being traded from the Pats in the preseason for a first-round pick in 2011.

This is as good a place to mention as any that the Seymour trade is looking better than ever now to me. I do think we missed him but I don't think he was the difference between this team getting to the SB and not. But if we'd kept him he'd be a FA now with Wilfork. So I like the trade even more now although I wish it was a 2010 #1.

This makes sense, jump on sports talk radio in the localization of "the only team" he wouldn't think about signing with... Does this not make any sense to anyone else?

EEI wants to drum up ratings and get the savages (I mean natives) in a lather about what could have been.

And Seymour obviously craves the attention.

Sounds like he's making a big push to have the Raiders re-sign him... says that he likes the challenge of being part of the Raiders re-building (something I think players have been saying for about the last decade)

Likes the mystique of the Raiders and their cool uniforms...

Though it does sound like he's really playing up the "veteran leadership" thing a bit... perhaps rubbing salt in New England's wounds?

We will never kniow whether Seymour or Hobbs and the signing/drafting of an additional LB would have made the difference. We can celebrate the trade when we win the 2013 SB, and think that this trade was the key to success.

In the end I think it was the right move to make. One year player vs potential top 5 pick.

But how you can say that you don't think Seymour was the difference in a SB when we got shredded on the ground in our playoff game, Watching SD lose, and if somehow the Jets beats the Colts I think you could say just that.

If we beat the Ravens Which Sey would have helped up to better contain Rice, then we would have headed to SD who stunk, after that it would be on the Road vs the colts or if the Jets beat em at home vs Jets. So if the Jets manage to win than I don't think it is too far fetched to think that this team was a Seymour and a Victory over the Jets away from the SB.

I imagine he is, otherwise he's being Franchised. The DE Franchise number is quote good but still not the lucrative 4-5 year with signing bonus he undoubtedly wants. No way the Raiders trade a #1 for just one year of Seymour.

If the year is uncapped they should sign him. One year rental for a 1st roundpick!

Mostly kidding. There must be more to it than the offer that sent him away.

I understand your logic but we all watched the team this year. The chance of us beating Balt then @SD then @Indy was minuscule IMO given everything I saw about the team.

Sorry but you must be heavily medicated to think that they were winning the SB with Seymour. Hobbs wouldn't have started over Bodden/Springs (maybe over Butler).

Can we resign him and then trade him to the Raiders again for another first round pick? You know that senile old bastard would do it.

You mean the senile bastard that took us for a 3rd for Burgess?

I understand that Seymour, Hobbs, Wood and Laurinitis (instead of Chung and Brace)wouldn't have guaranteed us a Super Bowl. However, if you think that these choice wouldn't have made us a better team, then I suggest that you do bit more analysis.

Hobbs would have been our nickel (over Butler) and our kick returner.

What I can't understand is why we didn't also trade Wilfork. Surely, he didn't bring us a Super Bowl ring.

Well they didn't exactly get "shredded" on the ground aside from that 83 yard TD run. Seymour was a part of some fluke plays like the Addai debacle a couple of years ago, so it's not like you can guarantee it wouldn't have happened with him.

The Ravens had 6 scoring drives, 4 of them started from our own 17, 25, 9 and 22. We prevented TDs on 2 out of those 4. Even if Seymour made the redzone D 'perfect', that's 12 points. The defense had an average of 2-3 plays rest per drive in the 1st quarter.

Rice had 3.6 YPC after that first play of the game. He had something like 5.5 against the Colts, but the Colts offense didn't put the game in a situation where the Ravens could continuously run on every play.

There's no doubt Seymour helps this team, and maybe if he's here we don't blow a couple of those 4th quarters, maybe we fight for the 2 seed, maybe things go differently. Then again maybe he gets hurt, maybe he falls on Wilfork's leg, the maybe game is a bad game to play.

Wilfork is absolutely more valuable to the D than Seymour, and is likely to re-sign. Seymour was unlikely to re-sign and 1st round pick was absolutely the right move.

    #85 Jersey

What I don't get is last season, on this board, there were threads of "get rid of Seymour" "did he even play today", etc, etc, but once he got traded, he was missed. Pretty hard to say Seymour would of made a difference at all. Unfortunately, we don't have time machines...yet...

    I disagree.

The explosive San Diego offense put up 14 points against NYJ yesterday. The Colts managed only 20 against Baltimore, with gift after gift from both Baltimore and the officials.

I think our fans have forgotten that the other team is a factor in the determination of a game. We played good teams this year, and we struggled against these good teams. However, if we had gotten by Baltimore - and granted, they destroyed us - I agree with SBB that our shots at the SB would've been as decent as anybodys.

And I think they would've been a lot better if we had Seymour. I still think Seymour was our best player against the run and the pass. And for all the complaints about Sey's health, Wilfork has been banged up back to back years now and his play has suffered for it. He gets credit for playing through it, but still - Seymour was a beast, and would've made a difference in this team.

Do you think the Ravens would've run all over us last week if he was around? No way. And if they don't run all over us, the offense gets the ball back a few more times, and maybe finds a rhythm. As of right now, that trade played a big part in costing us a shot at a SB this season, IMO, and there's nothing that is worth that on a team as talented as ours.

Let's see how it plays out. We could Franchise one, we couldn't Franchise two.
