Could you see him as a defensive coach for the Patriots? I know, I know..... but before you slash me and my suspect idea, hear me out.

I know he has the attitude that really doesnt fit the Patriots style here but I think the franchise as a whole is beginning to break from that "Patriot Way" theme and figure out ways to win. Now, I was the same guy who was wondering if Crennel would ever come back here as well, I guess I'm really concerned with the defense, go figure.

But just think for a second, although we can't stand the guy, could you imagine what he could do with our defense? I think we lack those confusing plays and "exotic" formations as we so call it. I think Sexy Rexy could make this defense much better, even with the lack of talent we currently have.

His defense lost it's best player and is giving up a ton of yards on the ground but they are still top 5 for pass defense. I know Cromartie has alot to do with that but I think in the scheme of things, he could make a difference.

Okay, now you can shoot my idea down and tell me how much of a loony bin I was for suggesting this! :p

Well his brother Rob was an assistant here under BB, but now that Rex has "come out" to the public by being a loud, brash, buffoon of a HC, it wouldn't work here where BB wants his assistants to keep their mouths shut.

If he became available and Belichick really follows his "do what's best for the football team" mantra, he'd have to look into bringing him here for a defensive coordinator position. Rex talks a lot, but I don't remember him in front of cameras when he was with the Ravens. I don't think he'd be in the media a lot here, and players seem to like his coaching style. Same goes for Romeo. If any of these guys are let go, and they show interest in taking a DC position, I think Bill should entertain that possibility.

I was talking to a Ravens fan about this and we both came to the conclusion the front 7 suits his schemes, he would even have a safety here now with McCourty!

If you look at the Ravens/Ryan scheme, one OLB is a slower, run stopper (Jarret Johnson, Bryan Thomas) while the other is a pass rusher...so with that in mind:

    Deaderick-Wilfork-Love
    Spikes-Mayo-Hightower-Jones

That's a good front 7 so mix that in with an aggressive scheme, you should get good results.

Then for obvious passing situations there's Cunningham, Ninkovich & a DB to bring onto the field, say for Spikes, Love & Deaderick and move to a 4 man front.

Saw this same musing on the Buffalo Bills board. They think Rex would be an upgrade over Wanstaad.
I personally don't think there are enough chicken wings in Buffalo to keep that pantload Ryan satisfied.....

(or maybe for Rexie that should be Buffalo feet)

    Hmmmm.....

It DOES have the added potential of causing the Rats' fans little heads to explode when Rex coaches the Pats "obviously inferior" defensive talent into a defensive juggernaut superior than the Rats' defense.

Would be nice, but Bill isnt going to essentially sell out his defensive philosophy.

Rex is staying in NY anyway. Contrary to popular belief, he's an excellent coach just needs a smart GM to help him with 'the groceries'

    I'd rather have Mangini back

Tanny will probably can Rex to save his own job, just like he did with Mangini.

Woody will probably give him a year or 2 with a new coach.

I'd take Mangini back as DB coach (forget what he did if you can, he will make the secondary better), look at the players he's had a hand in coaching: Law, Revis, Haden.

re: Rex Ryan...just "imagine" for a second... him as the DC for the Pats

    Terrible idea.
    1. Rex's style is high risk all out blitzing, antithetical to BB's approach. BB will never employ a coach who adopts a totally different approach.
    2. Rex's style works with CBs who can cover well for the couple seconds it takes the blitz to arrive.
Unless he can coach a pig to fly, he does not have those CBs here.
    3. Rex is a dick

I'd welcome Mangini back as a DB advisor/coach.

There's a better chance that Crennel would get fired and would be rehired here as a "consultant".

re: Rex Ryan...just "imagine" for a second... him as the DC for the Pats

Didn't Bill once employ Dom Capers, an adept of the zone blitz scheme? That's a completely different approach as well.

Which good cover corners did Rex have when he was DC in Baltimore? The Ravens were consistently at the top of the league in defense on those seasons, and yet CB was their weakest link on that side of the ball.

I actually find him highly entertaining, but can't really argue with you there.

After all the stunts ryan pulled on BB (for example signing a player that was just cut and making him a captian) i doubt BB would ever make wrex anything but a water boy.

There's no doubt about it that Ryan is a great DC, but there's no way he's getting hired here for that position.

re: Rex Ryan...just "imagine" for a second... him as the DC for the Pats

In a hearbeat, I'd take either of the Ryans for DC. The Jets defense has sucked this season and last but when they've had capable defenses they've slowed us down when few others could. Rob did it with the Browns in '10 and Cowboys in '11. Rex did it in the 2010 divisional round (he also did it in early '09 and early '10 but I won't count those because it wasn't the same offense that took off in the middle of the '10 season).

If he brings Darrelle Revis with him, I'm all for it. Otherwise, no thanks.

re: Rex Ryan...just "imagine" for a second... him as the DC for the Pats

Why? The Jets defense is worse than the Patriots, and has been for most of his time there. Ryan is severely overated. They are 24th in points allowed and where 20th last year. Not even average.
