OK. Lets revisit the Welker deal. I was all for using a 2nd on Welker prior to the end of LAST season. Some people looked down their noses. Some agreed. Some guffawed when the Pats sent an additional 7th round pick to the Phins as well and then claimed that Welker wasn't worth the 6 year / $18 million contract he got.

My question is this. How would you rate the EARLY returns on Welker?

Please consider that he has 84 receptions, 896 yards and 7 TDs. Barring injury, should become just the 3rd player since 1999 and the 4th since 1996 to gain over 1000 yards in a season.

The way he fits in New England's current offense, he probably gets more attention from enemy defenses than Stallworth. It looks like teams think they have a way to slow down the Patriots' quick strike O, and jamming Welker is the first phase.

Thought all this banter was supposed to be in the visiting locker forum???

Given the fact that our second round picks haven't been all that great and the Pats replaced Deion Branch with a second round pick and got a first round pick out of it, I would say it has been a "10" for this year. He is a vicious little receiver, especially when it comes to blocking downfield. And he has a ton of maturity as well.

Doesn't he work out of the slot position and is generally lined up against a safety or linebacker? I'm all for jamming a wide reciever at the line of scrimmage to slow them down, but eventually it will burn you. You won't see me complaining for using that tactic. Grabbing arms and holding is a whole different issue.

No offense, but isn't this the 300th thread about the Welker trade?

Is there really any Pats fans that wouldn't do it again?

Does this poll serve any real purpose?
