It's easy, and only takes a few moments....and the reported reason why was that he was struggling to learn the playbook. He's clearly a talented player, but doesn't fit the mold of a Patriots first rounder at all.
Given the way the board stacked up and the fact that the Pats had an uncharacteristic dearth of picks, the trade was a no-brainer. It transformed their whole draft.
Meanwhile in Vikings land....
Vikings Message Board.Com - View topic - Cordarrelle for Rookie of the Year
There is no special teams rookie of the year and he is certainly not the offensive rookie of the year.
Time will tell whether Patterson becomes a top tier receiver in this league and even if he does, nobody will say the Pats should not have made this trade based on how they utilized all the players they ended up getting from it this year.
We could have traded this pick down for the Collins pick alone and it would have been completely worth it.
And now Buchanon: goneAbsolutely! The funny thing to remember is that the positivity of fan reaction to the picks at the time was -pretty much opposite to how they turned out. Knee-jerk consensus was:
Buchanan -- steal!
Boyce -- promising pick at a clear need position
Ryan -- ok, but we're getting a little silly with this Rutgers thing
Collins -- what? who? with Hightower, Jones and Mayo on the roster?? what about WR???
And now Buchanon: gone
Boyce: gone gone, NFL career is over guy can't play.
Ryan: sucks, liability to start outside.
Collins: stud cornerstone player that may be a once in a generational player in the upcoming years.
