I do not know whether these filmmakers are fat, but they seem to have done the subject justice:

American Casino, The Most Dangerous Man in America review : The New Yorker

From an interview with a guy at the heart of the crisis.

Some of our staunchest financial analysts on this board may complain either that we do not know the filmmakers' weight, or that the review here (at least) has nothing to do with a bill passed during the Carter administration. But hey, nobody's perfect. I'm intrigued by what I see here.

Another for my "to see" list...

Definitely not in the mood to learn more about what happened to my business, friends' and family's businesses, and the general state of our burst bubble. But I'll still prolly watch it as I am a sado/masochist in a way that makes me feel better about myself knowing that others are suffering as much or more than I am. I like to think I understand the complexity of the financial collapse without knowing all the details that are knowable.

To be clear, I understand your reference to "fatness" as it relates to my now-famous "Pig Index". (am I correct in that assumption?) Of course, it applies to the banks, the government and the consumers. I like to blame the consumers because I have direct experiences with any other sector that's willing to admit fault in this mess. I also like people more than corporations and am much more eager to give people props when they do well. Because of that, in this case, I still insist on blaming people the most for being pigs during the expansion of the illusory economy. To absolve them of their responsibility in this mess would be insulting and condescending at best.

..."With a rare cohesive power, the ****burns fill in the lines of connection. They function a little like Raymond Chandler as he traces the corruption that produces, at the end of a long chain of circumstances, the lady in the lake."...

..."The ****burns don’t make it clear whether she was taken in by predatory lenders, who (as a variety of people explain) targeted minority groups and falsified income statements in order to grant unqualified people loans, or whether she simply miscalculated the amount of money that she had available to make her payments."...

P.S.: You could be the only one on this board who can answer these questions:
Do I put quotes inside or outside of the three dots...and what is the word for those dots?

Far be it from me to speak for PFinVA, but I took it as a jab all the obligatory fat jokes about Michael Moore.

Your interpretation is a lot deeper though, haha.

I could care less, I was just letting wistah know how I interpreted it. It's not his fatness that makes me question his films, however, but his obvious worldview.

It's more "cool" to trash all the little fat kids in school and their parents about obesity than it is to "insult" the Blame America Crowds beloved "Tub Of Sh!t" Moore.

    Moore Fat -Good
    Kids Fat -Bad

Michael Moore has to have Custom Made Toilet Seats, before he started making his millions he used to have his bowel movements in K Mart Dumpsters.

This isn't about Moore. It's about the complexities of the economic collapse this past winter. Try to focus. If not there's a simple-minded thread about Moore and his heft.

Nice try at an intelligent discussion, PFinVA.

I'm curious and sad that this movie's homepage doesn't list any sort of release in this area.

Jennifer's Body, Megan Fox's first foray into the teen T&A movie genre is gonna be released on 4000 screens across the USA a week from Friday and this movie won't even come to the Coolidge or Brattle Theaters here?

oh btw ... is an ellipsis. I'm pretty sure it goes in the quote.

My fault, I shouldn't have pointed out what I thought he meant. I should have known, like many threads here, it would be a one-way ticket to offtopicville.

My apologies PFinVA and Wistah. I think you're right too, Wistah, when you point out just how complex this collapse was. I really don't think it can be summed up by yelling "Barney Frank" or "Republican revolution." It seems to me there was so much crap coming from both sides that those who tried to talk about the impending collapse (and that list includes people from both sides as well) were drowned out. I don't know much about economics, and I doubt I would learn much from Moore's upcoming "documentary," but I am curious to see this one for sure. Thanks for pointing it out PFinVA.

To solve the mystery: yes, it was just a passing reference to the silly things we obsess on, in particular, Michael Moore's weight and the fact we had a thread quite recently supposedly about his last film, the title of which was all about him being fat.

We know he's fat... the point is that there are a lot of fat people, especially in the US. Not all of them make films... the quality of which is not affected by girth.

Anyway: I found the review really intriguing. I am fascinated by the roots of this thing, sasomasochistically, professionally, politically, every other-ly you can think of. We're living now in the aftermath, but that was the biggest WTF moment in my adult life. 9/11 was a WTF moment, but you could see it coming. Terrorists hated us. Terrorists kill people. So eventually terrorists succeeded in killing us, lots of us. But last year's market collapse, we did to ourselves. So... WTF? Makes you want to know what was going on that led to it. Hmmmmm. Leverages of 1000 to 1 and 10,000 to 1... go figger.

Like I said, it's another one for my must-see list. Thought I'd pop back on and clarify my cryptic "fatness of the filmmaker" commment.
