"This is a column about Republicans — and I’m not sure I should even be writing it.

Today’s G.O.P. is, after all, very much a minority party. It retains some limited ability to obstruct the Democrats, but has no ability to make or even significantly shape policy.

Beyond that, Republicans have become embarrassing to watch. And it doesn’t feel right to make fun of crazy people. Better, perhaps, to focus on the real policy debates, which are all among Democrats.

But here’s the thing: the G.O.P. looked as crazy 10 or 15 years ago as it does now. That didn’t stop Republicans from taking control of both Congress and the White House. And they could return to power if the Democrats stumble. So it behooves us to look closely at the state of what is, after all, one of our nation’s two great political parties."

    -Paul Krugman

It's the Democrats who are embarassing to watch. Spending trillions as if they're millions. The sad thing is, it's not a movie we're watching, these idiot Democrats are actually spending this money. On what ? Even they don't know.

Barring some sort of major gaffe or immediate and drastic social shift, they'll be back. I'm sure Gingrich was writing this same type of article in 2000-2004 saying how the bumbling Democrats were bound to be history. As far as I've seen, it's pretty cyclical.

real inetersting perspective... I agree with him. and the reason you are typing in HUGE FONT BOLD is that you are in this little bubble.....25% and getting smaller....and smaller...

    He ends with:

"So what’s the implication of the fact that Republicans are refusing to grow up, the fact that they are still behaving the same way they did when history seemed to be on their side? I’d say that it’s good for Democrats, at least in the short run — but it’s bad for the country.

For now, the Obama administration gains a substantial advantage from the fact that it has no credible opposition, especially on economic policy, where the Republicans seem particularly clueless.

But as I said, the G.O.P. remains one of America’s great parties, and events could still put that party back in power. We can only hope that Republicans have moved on by the time that happens."

Just a reminder, every time they spend $1T - that is $3,333 for every man, woman and child in the country assuming 300M people.

A big F*CK YOU to Obama for obligating over $12K from my family.

    Ha!

I guess you are forgetting the 2 wars, and recession he got passed to him by Bush.

    Funny...

you must also be forgetting the great depression where the government allowed the banks to fail, making the depression worse.

you must also be forgetting that we have leadership that is willing to look toth epast, and steer clear from what didn't work.

stay in your bubble, I ain't gunna pop it. Float to the skies! its dreamy!

I agree that the republican party is a joke and has been for awhile........

the only thing that is more ridiculous is that every time the dems take over, they prove time and time again that they are an even bigger joke

They're Obama's wars now, he's choosing to stay.

Barry and Nancy's spending spree had nothing to do with bank failures. I am talking about the Spending Spree not the saving of the banks.

    He stayed.

Not sure about that, his popularity is still decent but is WAY down since inauguration. I don't think he got elected to spending like a drunken foreigner (last word picked intentionally), he was elected for "change" - I doubt this spending is the change people wanted especially when the bills start to come due.

The American people have been embarrassed by BOTH parties at one time or another. Carter,Clinton,Nixon... the Kennedy's exploits, Palin,W.,Biden.... seriously the list really does go on and it doesn't spare anybody.

Supposedly Obushya's a DEM but many people have their doubts on that. He's certainly not conservative but he's so far left that he's off our political charts. Him and Pelosi both.

I'm embarrassed by having fascist-like presidents such as Bush and Big O; whatever party they claim to adhere to has no bearing on their actions, and it's only their actions which matter.

Republicans (here) have the balls to admit when their party does wrong - as we did with much of Bush's spending. You guys just walk like blind sheep behind your savior. Sorry but this isn't about Bush anymore - just because he had a spending problem doesn't excuse Barry and Nancy's spending spree.
