After drawing interest from both the Patriots and the Eagles, Shiancoe has signed this evening with the Patriots. A league source tells PFT it’s a one-year, $1.2 million deal with $400,000 guaranteed and another $800,000 in incentives.

This move makes them more deep, not more dangerous. And it does nothing to change the fact that the only way the Jets are going to challenge NE this year is if they get a pass rush.

If Rex's D can apply some serious pressure, the Pats can add 5 more mid-level FA receivers and it won't matter.

If Rex can get the defense to apply some pressure, that is a big if. As bad as the Pats' pass rush was last year at times, the Jets' pass rush was worse. If it wasn't for their CBs, they might have been the defense with the fewest sacks in the league because Revis alone probably caused a half dozen coverage sacks.

The thing is that the Pats have too many weapons to hope the Jets' secondary ties up the Pats' receivers long enough for the front seven to get to Brady.
