reading the wording of that there was no violation. This is just Albert Breer trying to gain some clicks off of the much hated Patriots right now.

No Club official may indicate to a player that the Club’s offseason workout program or classroom instruction is not voluntary * They were voluntary, the Patriots never declared that they weren't * (or that a player’s failure to participate in a workout program or classroom instruction will result in the player’s failure to make the Club * has nothing to do with him making the club, just discipline that has been consistent with BB for being late * or result in any other adverse consequences affecting his working conditions * His working conditions weren't adverse, he was studying film, lifting weights etc. * ). Contact work (e.g., “live” blocking, tackling, pass rushing, bump-and-run) is expressly prohibited in all offseason workouts.”

It's not a mandated workout, so I don't get the suspension at all. He didn't have to be there.

He technically wasn't suspended, he participated in all team activities except live drills on the field, but that is the coaches discretion on how many reps they want to give the 90 players on the roster early into OTA's. They already have a reasonable idea of what they have on the roster from last year, so they could just be putting a ton more time and reps in to the new guys and trying to get them up to speed as quickly as possible

So is this how we lose our 2nd rounder next year?

Removing a draft picks for something like that would just hurt the union players more because it means 1 less player being drafted. Nothing will come of this unless Butler decides he wants to make a stink out of it, and I highly doubt that will be the case.

Team re-states the fact that these are voluntary.
Team sets up roster of volunteers.
Team sets up activities based on volunteer list.
Volunteer fails to show.
Team adjusts accordingly.
Volunteer shows up while activities are in progress.
Team says "Thanks for making it, but we gave your spot to John Doe. We've got room in the classroom, though."

Team doesn't punish volunteer, team doesn't punish John Doe. Team accommodates volunteer by making room where they can.

Sorry - nothing to see here.

Yeah, just ask Bob Kraft. He's in the cross-hairs of plenty of people around here to the point where he's responsible for unpopular decisions he doesn't make.
Krafty Kraft is a vodka swilling, bloviating tool that loves the sound of his own voice and the nonsense his words create. "Tonight we are all Patriots....now where's my niece, Diddy's waiting for us in the limo."

That's a bad way to start your weekend, Ron...
