Report: Jets reconsidering if Sanchez is team's answer at QB

maybe they'll fire rex and sd will hire him like they almost did in 2007

yeah, rivers would be wishing for this ****ty year back as opposed to dealing with rex

Well, be careful what you wish for..... the Colts might be looking for a new HC next year too.

FWIW Mort is co hosting Mike and Mike and he said he's heard similar buzz about Sanchez basically confirming the article.

Sanchez did out play brady last year... however he does stink and is vastly overated... if the jets were smart trade him to seattle for a first and third... and fire rex ryan.. i mean mangini was fired after 3 years.

Sanchez is still young, but he hasn't progressed. Now most Jetss fans will blame the OC, but lets face it, Snachez is most effective throwing play action passes once the Jets are up and running the ball effectively. Since most of the year they have done neither, Sanchez has been uneffective.

Look, Brees was run out of San Diego because he was ineffective, (actually he was very good his last year in SD, but he got hurt and his contract was up, so SD decided to move on because they had the #1 pick. Then Brees got with a better OC/HC, and has become a superstar. Could you imagine if Sanchez plays out his contract goes somewhere else and then lights up the Jets? That would be hilarious!

Look the Jets are still trying to replace Namath, ad it appears that the search continues.....

This will be fine, no matter how it turns out. Either:

- this angst defines the Jests personnel issues for the next three years but they do nothing about it, and Sanchez continues to be their QB, or

- they give up a bunch of players and/or picks in order to move up in the draft to grab someone else, and spend a large chunk of their cap funding another novice QB for a few years. This handicaps them rebuilding.

A winning scenario for the Pats either way.

Pete wasn't high on him as a rookie, he wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole now. Pete knows how to run a pro offense. He also knows that the guys he won with were often products of the effect of his expertise on the college level and his recruiting charm and the talent they were surrounded with and the aura that created at USC. Cassel was probably the best prospect he ever had and he only succeeded to some extent because he didn't get to start there. He had to work at developing and patiently claw for a shot at starting.

NY was an especially poor fit for the last of the Carroll QB's because he was annointed out of the gate and the need to win now trumped the need to build a winning foundation for him or around him once again, story of the SOJ's. Herm, Mangini, Favre, Rex...it's all just Woody spinning his wheels to win the battle of NY and knock BB off the top of the AFCE. That was why Bill advised Mangini to pass on the job offer. He knew the organization is both bottom line and lacking in the patience to build a foundation that will stand the test of time - which is why they have failed since Joe Willie talked them into that one superbowl 42 years ago. Bold moves and bold predictions aren't what wins in today's NFL. Slow and steady wins the race. That is why 9 of the last ten AFCC superbowl representatives have been either us or the steeler or the colts and in 6 of those 9 appearances they've been the ones hoisting that Lombardi.

If he can stay healthy they have a decent developmental QB on the roster in McElroy, but that atmosphere isn't going to afford him an opportunity to develop, either, even if he possesses the capacity to. Unrealistic expectations, impatience and no courage of their convictions, big ears and big egos and thin skin equals no mental toughness, and talent and physicality alone won't get the job done or the Ravens would have had more than one Lombardi shot in a decade, too.

I don't understand how Sanchez was a top 5 pick in the first place?

*One year starting at USC

*Nothing special size wise (6'2" 225lbs)

*No cannon arm, looks below average

*Not fast (4.88 forty)

Foolish pick, we got the same thing as an UDFA.

Thats pretty much the NYJ's history. They've had good years out of QBs, but never had a long stretch of outstanding QB play. Todd had 1-2 good years and the rest crap. Ken O'Brien, Esiason & Pennington had some good years and others where they was ineffective or injured.

Statistically speaking, Sanchez has improved in each season as a pro. Comp %, yds, TDs, rating, etc. The problem is that he's still a marginal QB.

And if they trade for or sign a franchise QB like Manning or Brees?

How is he overated if everyone says he sucks? Nobody would give up that much for him. Ryans had some nice playoff success his first 2 years even if he misses the playoffs this year it would be dumb to fire him already. Sanchez will probably never be a top qb but, I give him credit for stepping it up in the playoffs.

Moving on from Sanchez would be a mistake IMHO.

I think it's fair to say the biggest group of Mark Sanchez fans outside New York are Pats fans. ;)

And if they trade for or sign a franchise QB like Manning or Brees?

Not worried about it.

The odds on them getting someone like Brees are one in a zillion; players like that switch teams perhaps once a decade. He's one of the three or four most valuable players in the league every year.

Manning, with one or two years left in his spine, is a possibility but what they'd have to give up would hurt them more than what they'd add. They are slowly eroding as a team, with upgrade needs next year in just about every unit. And I doubt Manning would put himself in that position anyway.

In Taco's defense this season, his OLine has been horrid. Losing Woody has impacted that offense more than anyone could have imagined, including Taco.

Will little Marky ever be an elite QB or even a great QB, obviously NO after what we've seen over 3 seasons. But can he be a starting NFL QB with the right pieces around him, specifcally a good OLine, yes he can. The Jets busted on the Ducasse pick and it has cost them dearly as they've pissed away all of their depth picks during the last 3 drafts and are now starting an OLine with 2 varsity players and 2 JV players and a frosh (Wayne Hunter). And Nacho has paid the price for that.

People can say what they want about Sanchez, but give the kid his due. It was his play in the playoffs over the last 2 season that got that team to 2 AFCCGs, I don't think anyone can say the kid "chokes" in the playoffs. I am just hoping our QB can raise his level of play this January at Foxboro, something we haven't seen the last 2 years with the 2 Gillette stadium "one and dones".
