WR Julian Edelman will re-sign with the Patriots today. Visited the Giants but is going back to New England.

Just saw that. Glad to have him back in my opinion.

Re: Sounds like Edelman's back

With Sanders, and now it looks like edelmen too, I think the Pats have a solid receiver core. Really impressed with what the Pats are doing right now, I'm excited to see how the draft is going to pan-out!

Re: Sounds like Edelman's back

Good news....

Re: Sounds like Edelman's back

Great, great, great insurance policy on Danny Amendola, imo. If we lose one we can plug in the other.

Stellar punt returner too.

Julian Edelman will sign a one-year, incentive-laden deal with #Pats today, source confirms. (@MikeGarafolo had reported).

So Amendola and the BOSTON TE party are the only ones we should depend to be here after next year.

Re: Sounds like Edelman's back

Amendola
Sanders
Edelman
Jones

Younger, faster and more versatile than any receiving crew we've had in recent memory. Go draft a big, fast X, and the overhaul is complete.

I fail to see what precludes the Patriots from re-signing their players next offseason.

Re: Sounds like Edelman's back

This is fantastic news. If true, that means he didn't resent the organization for not pegging him as Welker's heir apparent as some in the media had suggested. That and/or he didn't see the type of offers he was expecting in free agency (a lot players feel this same way). He can now be Amendola's direct back-up and a return specialist on special teams if he makes the roster.

From a role perspective the Patriots have effectively replaced Welker with Amendola, Lloyd with Sanders (if all goes as planned), Edelman's back to his old familiar spot as probably the top back up to those two. While bringing in competition for Branch's old role with JAGs like Jenkins/Jones, and camp fodder like Stallworth along with the expected WR purge of guys off the scrap heap.

Just one big, fast, physical true outside receiver should be all that's needed now.

If he can kick on from the form he showed in those couple of games before his injury then oooh boy the new young offense is going to be a lot of fun to watch!

Heck yeah good move now if we gain Sanders trade Mallet for anything that can help us In they way of draft picks draft a tall wideout ala Hopkins or Hunter then this offense looks mighty explosive here's to hoping Pitt doesn't match.

Worth noting that Edelman is now the longest tenured receiver Brady currently has (not counting Slater).

somehow, someone will come up with a "bad!!!!" spin about this now..."the Patriots have TOO MANY receivers now!!!This is REAL BAD!!!!"...or I'm guessing "all these signings are terrible!!!They did NOTHING to upgrade!!!! Waaaaaaah...Welker...waaaaaaah".....meanwhile, it's April and the Patriots move on to the draft...

Let's not kid ourselves. Our WR core is pretty crappy still and Keenan Allen would be the best receiver on the team day 1. If we end up getting Sanders atleast we will have two good WRs.

Edelman, meh hope it was limited money.

Good move like his work ethic and what he brings to the table..

Still waiting for him to assume some type of ballhandling role, wildcat??, as he was a college QB....

 :rocker:

bring it on !

Insurance policy for Amendola and a solid PR. Good move, assuming it's for low money. Now bring back Lloyd and draft either Hunter, Wheaton, or Woods and the Pats are set at WR with plenty of competition for training camp.

Or just sign Danario Alexander to a sheet and see if the Chargers don't match and then go all defense in the draft.

Until they are re-signed, I will not "depend" on them to be here. See how that word works?

Great to hear it's heavy on incentives. Agree the PR game just got stronger and good depth at WR.
