So I'm renewing the registrations for some trucks, and small trailers (compressor, cement mixer types) for our company vehicles here in Taxachusetts, and I noticed that all the registration fees are up over 30% from last year. Nice!

$180 to renew a 1991 Chevy pick-up. You won't find that in a tax index either.

Wow, that's bad. Here in CA my 2000 Intrepid was something like $120.

You think that's bad? The new health insurance terms are coming out this month and next. Check those out and watch how your monthly premiums increased, your co-pays increased, your ER visit cost increased, your prescription co pays increased, and your overall benefits decreased.

It cost me close to $300 to register my vehicle in New Hampshire, so I doubt this is a "Taxachusetts"-specific issue.

Wasn't the Massaschuetts health reform deal supposed to reduce costs? How's that working out for ya? Oh, and please don't hijack my thread. We've already got 100 healthcare threads going. Thanks.

I don't know what you're driving, but my crappy vehicle is at least paid off. A 2001 Chrysler that costs less than $70 to the state in annual registration fee. I don't think it's as bad up here.

Our 2002 Ford F-450 cost the company $300 this year. Up $70 from last year's $230. Furthermore, what was the excise tax you paid on your vehicle? The sales tax when you bought it? Oh wait, that's right, NH doesn't have a sales tax, and I'm pretty certain there's no annual excise tax as well. Nice!

How does NH do it? How can our bordering state be so efficient, when it has so fewer taxes than we do?

have you also noticed what the price of milk or bread is?

    it's called inflation.

thanks to policies over the past 30 years, you're going to see a LOT of it very soon.

There is no excuse for the price of milk to be where it is now.

It's called artificially inflated pricing which is supported by our friends in gov't...of course, you already know this.

But why the phluck are you bringing this up in a thread about registration fees?

You don't pay an excise tax, as far as I know, on a lease.

New Hampshire does it by exorbitant property taxes. It's really no secret.
