Not sure where this should be posted, if anywhere, but is there a way to remove the email address from our profiles?

I get enough spam as it is, don't need anymore.

    Dear in the Lord,

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am Patjew from Cote D'lvoire, and a widom to late David Cole. I am 61 years old and a new christian convert suffering from a long time cancer of the breast.

From all indications, and medical analysis, it is quite obvious that I may not live more than three months according to my doctors. This is because the cancer stage has gotten very bad and deteriorating seriously daily. Due to the cancer disease has gotten to a very bad stage that no hope for me to be a living person again. I have even since lost my ability to talk.

My late husband killed during the hurrican disester in New Orleans while he was in a business trip. And during the period of our marrige of 13years, we could not produce any child. Since the death of my husband I decided not to re-marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home, which the Bible is against.

My late husband was very wealth and I inherited all his business and wealth, and since my doctors have advised me that I may not live more that three months, so I now decided to donate this fund to charity purposes through a God's fearing individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein.

I want such a person who will use this fund to Churches, Mosques, Orphanages, Research Centres and Widows in Africa, America, Asia and Europe, propagating the word of God and to ensure that the desires of God are maintained. The Bible made us to understand that blessed is the hand that giventh.

I selected you after viewing the website of your country, which I prayed and fasted for two weeks over before I picked you. This is because the Security Company and the management just wrote me as the beneficiary to come forward to claim the money or rather issue a Letter of Authorization to somebody to receive it on my behalf if I can not come over. I am willing to donate the US$6,150,000.00 (Six Million One Hundred and Fifty Thousand US Dollars) to the less privileged.

Please I want you to note that this fund is currently lying in a Security/Reserved Company and upon my instruction my Attorney who is presently in London will file in an Application for the transfer of the money in your name. This process will make the fund get to you legally thereby not breaching the Laws of the both countries concerned for this very claim.

I shall give you the contact of the Security Company. I will also issue you a Letter of Authority that will prove you as the new beneficiary of this fund.

But please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein and Keep this contact confidential till such a time this funds get to your custody. This is to ensure that nothing endangers my last wish on earth.

Any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing for another God's fearing individual for this same purpose, since I have a very short time to live.

Please always be prayerful all through your life, and always include people like us in your daily prayers.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus the love of God and the sweet fellowship of God be with you and your family, Amen!!!!!!!.

Remain blessed in the name of the Lord.

    Yours in the Lord,
    Patjew

You are a sick and twisted individual, I hereby salute you. By the way, is Nigerian currency ok for the $.63 (I get Nigerian currency at a discount)?

    I've sent out 3 mass e-mails in 5-years, I wouldn't worry about it. - Ian

It's true, but I got the last one despite disabling email contact in my user prefs. It's not good form (and nevermind being against the CAN-SPAM Act) to ignore unsubscribe requests.

I'm not sure you're correct about that, considering that the e-mail was neither commercial in nature nor asking for money. Furthermore, you voluntarily provided your e-mail address upon registration, and even if it's hidden in your public profile it's not out of the realm of acceptance for site admins to use it for administrative purposes, as long as it's not distributed at large. Saying it's a violation of CAN-SPAM is a bit of a stretch, it's more of a gray area.

    (Yeah, I'm bored...)

That's alright, I'm not planning on reporting anyone, I'm just very sensitive about getting unsolicited emails.

I apologize. The settings for the e-mail had it set to go out to subscribed members, and I don't see any direct unsubscribe requests in my e-mail from you. However I will manually change your settings so you don't get any future e-mails. - Ian

I'm not worried about emails from PATSFANS Ian. It's the ability of others to see the email addresses.

Got it. I just spent the last hour going through this and finally figured it out because it wasn't set up as obvious in the admin panel. I just disabled the ability for people to see the e-mail addresses as it got enabled again after the upgrade. I also made it where users have to have a minimum of 20 posts to be able to e-mail, which will prevent bots from sending garbage messages, and should someone e-mail you, it will require a form to be used which will not show the address. You can also disable the ability for members here to e-mail you.

It is important that your e-mail addresses in your profile are accurate, but only because passwords expire every few months, and you won't be able to click the "forgot your password" link and get it reset so you can log back in. I can't tell you how many people have to e-mail me to reset their passwords for that reason, and since I only have so much time to check my e-mail and get back to people it will save you step. - Ian
