Of the 53 players on the Patriots' roster, 13 have never appeared in an NFL playoff game. In addition to Hawkins, the total includes seven rookies -- quarterback Matt Cassel, receiver Bam Childress, cornerback Ellis Hobbs, left tackle Nick Kaczur, left guard Logan Mankins, safety James Sanders, and nose tackle Mike Wright -- as well as second-year players Marquise Hill (defensive line), Billy Yates (offensive line), and Benjamin Watson (tight end), and fifth-year veterans Michael Stone (safety) and Ross Tucker (offensive line).

That's only 9 players with even a hint of playoff experience.

I think that was the point of the original post. 40 out of 53 players with playoff experience is pretty darn good.

I've always thought that playoff experience is overrated and that it's mostly a media topic.

Teams that win it all often have playoff experience because they are getting better. And as they get better, they make the playoffs, but still not enough. Then they add a few pieces, and they win it all.

I'm not sure how you would "prove" the value of playoff experience.

Can anyone remember a player on a playoff team say "we will probably lose -- we have much less playoff experience"?
