"Gay is an interesting case in that he entered the league (2004) as a rookie free agent out of LSU. He played 18 games in the Super Bowl championship season in 2004, starting 12 of them. But he's played in only eight games the last two years due to injuries.

If the Patriots rolled the dice and gave him the low tender, Gay would essentially be an unrestricted free agent. It would be simple for another interested team (e.g. Jets) to insert a "poison pill" into an offer sheet, making it difficult for the Patriots to match.

To protect themselves, the Patriots are likely to give Gay the second-round tender. While $1.35 million might be a bit much to invest at this point of time, the Patriots also must protect themselves at defensive back, a spot that ranks high on the team's need list.

Assuming they receive offers, Baker, Mruczkowski and Yates would likely receive the lowest tender.

This will be one area we'll be following today."

I'd imagine Mike will have the first word on who gets tendered what.

He also has some comments from Wilson's agent (who is also TBC's agent) and the guy sounds like he's trying to convince someone that Eugene remains a star... Apparently he'll be training for his contract season with a personal trainer in California. That was the approach Asante took (training away from the team on his own) but BB doesn't usually appreciate when they choose that route.

And from the sounds of his agents comments it sounds like the team passed on Pass.

Geno has had his season end with injury in 03, 04, and 06. Seems like using a personal trainer he trusts is a reasonable thing to do if he wants to get back to his best game.

To be fair, thanks to '03 and '04 he essentially played an extra season, especially given how rookies normally hit the wall by the bye. So we'll credit him for '06 and call it even.

And from the sounds of his agents comments it sounds like the team passed on Pass.

It is funny how quickly fortunes can change in this game. After the Denver game in 2005, Pass was emerging as a legitimate RB threat. He was never going to be great, but there were whispers on this very board that Pass was closing in on Dillon and may have passed him. I am not mocking those, as Pass was certainly running well at every opportunity then.

Unfortunately someone decided to shoot him in the leg during the Buffalo game and he has never resurfaced.
