I'm still not sure if he is looking for all the hats his predecessor held, and if Hunt is reluctant to do so. Peterson was GM, president and CEO. Apparently, his GM skills were his strength at times and weaknesses later on. I also am curious about Herm as I have read the two get along and Hunt may not want to give him the axe (although he indicates the new GM would have "significant input" to the owner on the head coach determinations).

I hate that we might lose McDaniels. He has come into his own, he's getting better and better.

I really think this will set us back a little bit next year.

well the hunt family and krafts get along very well along with the fact that its a stable franchise which is a very +ve and attractive proposition and helps the negotiations.

I know the Kraft family and the Hunt family are close but why would the Krafts help them in hiring Pioli away from their team??

Peter King from Dale and Holley show on Friday: Peter King, SI/NBC Sports

He seems to feel that Pioli is staying and McDaniels is going to Denver.

iam surprised the broncos are not preferring a defensive coach.

Jbowing King, he probably has it backward.
It is a good match for Piloli and I have thought that was the case for a few weeks now. If he is going anywhere, it'll be KC, although the Herm thing may be a problem. I'm not a fan of him and that may be pone of the reasons and wakks to getting this done. I really doubt Pioli wishes to go into a situation where he really has little faith in the caoch..and Edwards has shown how poor he is on many levels.
As for Josh, one might think a defensive coach would be a better fit..he will be missed, but I wonder if he may not come back to get eveb netter next year. It's not like after 09 theer won't be vacancies.
If both go, I will not be surprised...but I am sure there are already plans in the making.

I would like another year with Mcdaniels and Tom Brady, but that would be a loss.. I also will be disapointed with Pioli, I dont understand why Kc and why now.. Kc if its not total control would be a lateral move.. But it would be a huge loss in the organization if he leaves.. Nick Ceserio would be running the show i think, and was the WR coach 2 years ago..But as long as BB is in place there should be no worries.. Bill O Brien could be the defacto oc and qb coach, but here is a thought , Jeff Jagozinski for oc?? I doubt it but you never know..

Probably not as an OC, yet. He would have to spend some time in the 'system' before he would assume the OC role.

Well KC has a stable ownership which is similar to broncos which is why McD is interested. Such chances come rarely for both so thats probably one of the key factors in pioli's interest.Plus they have a young team and lot of cap space so he will have something to work with

Denver would be a Good place for McDaniels to start knowing he's a Offensive guy. He would have too fine young WR's to work with right off the bat in Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal. Hope he gets a DC and some better players and fix that Defense.

Denver needs a defensive minded coach. Josh will NOT be an improvement on Shannahan. Thatbeing said, it seems likely that the deal will be made.

Pioli wants control. Pioli will will not go if he can't even hire and fire coaches.

    Disable Jersey

Shanahan hasn't been calling plays for years, and has been the man making the poor decisions in free agency and the like. How can you be so sure that McDaniels would not be an improvement upon that? Just as a hypo....

McDaniels as coach, RAC as defensive coordinator. How would the recent Shanahan years be a definite step above that?

King was right about McDaniels, now let's hope he is right about Pioli.

Read that....I'm still holding out hope:

Hey if Pioli feels he can be more successful and be more professionally fulfilled by working with or more likely for an accountant playing football guru rather than BB then so be it: Denny Thum, Interim President/General Manager, Kansas City Chiefs

The more this drags out the better I feel about SP staying, remember he met with KC last Monday.

Shannahan is a hall of famer, no doubt. But I agree with you. The last 5 years or so, hes been significantly below average.

If I'm Pioli, and I'm going to KC, I absolutely insist that Herm is gone.

Shanahan is a terrific coach but since he gained total control his personnel decisions have been poor. I think Denver are hoping for the same kind of boost they got when Shanahan arrived: a young offensive coach to work with a talented group. Nolan was a poor HC but a good DC and McDaniels can let him get on with that side of the ball. Once the players decide McDaniels has something to offer them (as Brady, Moss etc clearly did here) then he will do well.

It seems like part of Pioli's negotiations concern whether Herm is fired before or after Pioli takes over. He wants a clean slate from the start. KC makes sense: weak division, passionate fans and rich, patient owners. It's a 3-4 year project but Miami showed how fast things can change in the modern NFL.
