Reiss: Ninkovich extended through 2011

Woods-esque or banta-esque, we need player like this on the roster, especially at near vet minimum pay.

Does Ninkovich have the talent to be a starter, eventually? Or is he more of a Pierre Woods-esque character?

Yes, the signing is part of the message to the team. The reality is that it makes little difference. Ninkovich was an RFA and was always going to play for us. As with others, Ninkovich signed through 2011 which is great. I hope that Woods is next.

Well, the signing itself happened over a month ago, but it leaking out may have been a message. Kind of like how BB's extension was leaked just after Spygate.

I doubt Bill would leak ... is it possible Bob or Jonathan leak news?

Seriously ... I don't think any of Bill's management would dare leak anything.

Just playing along here ... who do you think might be the leaker ... would it be Bill?

In the limited action I have watched him he looked good.

I loved Ninkovich in the preseason, but we all know how well preseason production scales to the regular season...

Regardless, I'm still optimistic; you know he's going to bring something to the table, and he's not going to take anything off the table, which makes him a better fit than the guy he's replacing.

Like Pierre Woods fans, you guys get excited over pretty much nothing with news like this. Until Ninkovich does something on the field, he's a JAG.

Thank God we have you here to provide the more sober assessments.

Ninkovich was getting some decent QB pressure when he was playing healthy. For a guy learning the system I thought he was improving by the week until he got injured.

Is he our next Mike Vrabel????

Thought it might be nice to revisit this article in Scout.com on Rob.

Scout.com: Ninkovich is ready to "Make it Happen"

Sack 'em and stack 'em, Ninky the Binky.

Holy Crap! Is Ninkovich BB's long lost adopted bastard child? Bill himself couldn't have written a better description of his perfect player. If you're wondering what that one intangible characteristic all BB players must possess, look no further than the man written about in this article.

BB just starting to put together his 80 man roster for 2010.

Nice link, thanks for posting.

Ninkovich has been pretty good in limited opportunities. I was hoping he'd get more time in the rotation, so I'm pretty excited to see what he can do.

Based on his track record, I can understand why some would consider him a JAG. But so was Tom Brady at one point. Ditto Gary Guyton. Guys who find a way to cling to a roster and work their way up may have something special in them that you can't teach some first rounders.

I'm not saying he's the second coming of Vrabel, but he has some talent, and he's got something more than that in the way of intangibles, so let's not write him off just yet.

I'd be willing to bet he registers a big play today that puts an exclamation point on all of this, even if he's not a future star.

I've liked what little I've seen of him. He had a good reputation as

a pass rusher coming out of college.

Did he attend the combine for his year ('07?)

I'm just wondering if we have any measurables on the guy.

Not invited to the combine. Played two years in junior college, then

two years at Purdue (one as a starter). He had a 4.8 40 yard dash

at his Pro Day.

I think he has potential over time to become a contributor to this defense, maybe today he can start earning his shot. I agree I couldn't believe that article when I read it. If he's not all talk and he can focus on this defense as much as he says he does he could be a key member of this team in the future.

This guy was rarely on the field. Don't we have a OLB special teamer specialist in Woods already?

Not saying he isn't any good, but we haven't seen much of him.

He has been on defense for 50 snaps this season. As a comparison, Seau has seen 59 snaps.
