Ninkovich latest to sign extension - Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston
without AD, he just might be the best OLB the pats have to look forward with
Just beat me to it.
The deal includes a $350K signing bonus.
Not earth-shattering by any means, but seeing as that's almost enough to buy a house after taxes. . . .
Don't have to read too far between the lines to see what this really means. Bye Adalius- looks like the Pats are moving forward with guys who actually want to be here.
Wonder if this deal was accelerated by the AD benching. Rob just got paid, now it's time to earn it.
If this is the "real" Adalius now, BB would cut bait with him next offseason if he had zero OLBs signed for next year.
The real question is whether or not the Patriots can actually get anything for him, rather than cutting him outright.
At this point, I'm sure they'd gladly take a 2011 7th rounder from, say, Detroit.
Just to keep him out of the Jets' hands, I could see them essentially giving him away to anyone who was willing to take on his contract.
Yes, the signing is part of the message to the team. The reality is that it makes little difference. Ninkovich was an RFA and was always going to play for us. As with others, Ninkovich signed through 2011 which is great. I hope that Woods is next.
If we could trade Adalius for a 2nd rounder I'd be thrilled. I wonder if Al Davis is interested
fixed (10 char)
Hoping is not a plan. Wilfork will NOT be next.
mg was referring to OLBs specifically, but your point is taken.
That said, I'm not sure that any deal mutually acceptable to both Wilfork and the Patriots is possible until the 2009 league year ends, because of the special contract rules in place this year for both extensions and new contracts.
Wait..... given how us Pats fans have trashed AD here all season, wouldn't we want himto go to the Jets?
they already have enough underachieving pass rushers (Bryan Thomas, Gholston, etc.)
Because the last thing you need is a smart, talented player (and he is talented) who has an axe to grind with your team and knows your defense inside and out playing for your division rival?
Adalius is talented, he's just also a head case who quit on the team.
The same coach whose defense Thomas flourished in in the first place making him a lucrative free agent of a few years ago...
$650,000 in 2010 and 2011 ... that's decent value for a kid with a good motor.
Thought it might be nice to revisit this article in Scout.com on Rob.
Scout.com: Ninkovich is ready to "Make it Happen"
Sack 'em and stack 'em, Ninky the Binky.
LOVE me some Ninkovich. Glad they re-upped him, even if it was inevitable.
Does Ninkovich have the talent to be a starter, eventually? Or is he more of a Pierre Woods-esque character?
