    Update from Rookie Mini camp

    http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/

Thank the Football Gods for Mike Reiss. The man is doing an outstanding job covering the team.

So much for Brady not working out, eh? :p

    Re: Reiss' mini camp notes

I know it doesn't mean much at this point, but it's nice to hear about the CB's with all the confidence we now have at ILB/OLB. I really, really hope #22 turns out to be what we're hoping for.

    Re: Reiss' mini camp notes

Wheatley is an absolute key for us. I honestly don't think we'll miss Samuel's coverage that much because he gave up a lot of plays and TDs. But we might desperately miss those INTs he got. Enter Wheatley who had 14 INT in college, if he can show flashes of that this year and get 3-4 as a rookie we could easily be looking at another Samuel providing his wrist stays healthy.

Re: Update from Rookie Mini camp

The guy who blogged the live practice seemed more interested in the punter and K. O'Connell than Mayo and Crable. Kind of odd.

It was good to hear that Drago's ball was turning over, someone here Ochmed I think, said his ball doesn't turn over. If that's not an issue then his stride just needs to be shortened in addition to cutting down to two steps.

Probably because it's easier to judge a Punter and QB to the average fan than the intricacies of LB and CB.

Good to hear that Wheatley and Wilhite appeared to be very quick. Lord knows we needed to get younger and faster on defense. Hopefully, they can mesh into our system.

Re: Update from Rookie Mini camp

That blog is great. Thanks for posting it.

Really good to see that the corners both stand out. I know everyone says not to read anything into these early practices, but it does seem more often than not when guys stand out early, they generally pan out.

I recall Branch looked like a polished pro in the rookie minicamps. Nothing like the unguarded optimism of May. Hope springs eternal! :)

    Re: Reiss' mini camp notes

Actually we might not need those ints if we got Mayo busting in from the middle to wreak havoc.:D

Yes that was my post on the punter. I remembered that from the all star game. However just to be certain, I checked the Lindy publication and they noted that Drago didn't turn the ball over as well.

So it is good to see that the punter has been working on a few things since the season ended.

I'm picturing the Colts game at the new Lucas Oil field and Mayo busting thru Ugoh's gap and literally blowing up Addai on Goober 18's first off tackle call. MAY-OWWWWWE !!!!!!!

    Re: Reiss' mini camp notes

Unless Mayo is allowed to bring some type of explosive device onto the field, I find that unlikely.

    Re: Reiss' mini camp notes

I think it'll be a very interesting position to watch this year. Those INTs in 2007 contributed to Hobbs being singled out a lot last year. I think the left side will see some action again. And yeah, who knew titanium breaks like that?
