July 28, 2006
1st day, 2nd practice

Some notes from the second practice of the first day of training camp:

* This workout was not sharp and Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn't appear pleased. At one point, the entire offense ran a full lap around the field. Toward the end of practice, select players toed the goal-line and were instructed to do more running.

* Receiver Reche Caldwell dropped a pass and promptly hit the deck for 10 pushups, which drew a cheer from the crowd.

* Receiver Michael McGrew left the workout with trainers after apparently suffering an injury.

* In punt return work, the returners were Kevin Faulk, Ellis Hobbs, John Stone, Laurence Maroney, Matt Shelton and Willie Andrews.

* The practice featured a lot of work for the three-wide offense, which in turn, resulted in work for the nickel defense.

We'll plan on wrapping up the first day of training camp with one final update later today/tonight.

Faulk seems to be the back-up plan at PR. It looks like Maroney or Willie Andrews seem to be the rookies competing for the spot. Maybe Bam Childress and John Stone as the WR competing for the spot.
