When the Patriots are playing defense in the redzone they have allowed the other team to score a touchdown 6 out of 9 times. That puts them in 29th place in a 32 team league.

When the Patriots are playing Offense in the redzone they have scored a touchdown in 4 of 11 opportunities. That puts them in 27th place in a 32 team league.

On a side note the Patriots sit in 31st place in a 32 team league on getting off the field on third down. Stopping the offense less that 50% of the time on 3rd downs.

Is this a good team? It does not rank very well right now in any catagory.

    Re: Red Zone....

Given the shocking loss of the franchise QB in the very first game, I am not surprised to see our current #s in the bottom of the league. But, that is understandable for the offense.

Our defense however is making me wonder, especially when considering another stat in Reiss' piece which I believe mentioned that opponents convert nearly 60% of their third downs! Our defense ranks pretty low in the league tables in that stat too.

Three games is too small of a sample size to make any judgements. They had a very bad game against Miami. One bad game does not turn them into the Rams.

    Re: Red Zone....

I like running the ball inside the 20 in our current state on offense. The Patriots are deeper than I can ever remember at the position.

Lets throw the ball downfield to Moss. Maybe he makes a great catch or maybe the Patriots gain 50 yards on PI. He is on the team, lets use him.

On defense we need to attack. This front 7 must knock the QB into next week.Sitting back on defense and letting the Ronnie Brown's of the world come to us is not working.

The Patriots can go into the Charger game at 3 - 1 on the season.

    I think they will. :eat1:

    Re: Red Zone....

It seems from reading the posts so far that getting Moss more involved in the red zone will be a great help.

So as you said, I think they will be fine and produce a great game next Sunday.

    So we shall see.

    Re: Red Zone....

I don't think that our red zones stats were great last year either. Other than filling obvious personnel holes at CB and ILB, our two greatest needs for improvement this year were special teams play, red zone defense, and red zone offense.

It's early, but it seems that special teams play is much improved, even with Washington and Alexander not playing.

I believe that red zone offense is a matter of coaching. The jets demonstrate that for us. Their coaching was aweful! Josh needs to do better; we certainly have the players. I believe that Jordan should help.

I have no answer to the issue of red zone defense. In the end, I think it is all about sucking it up and playing better than the other guy. Again, we could use some depth at ILB and SS, but we the players to succeed in the red zone.

The internet a not a great place to try and have a conversation.

Comparing the Rams and the Patriots would be silly.

At least I find it silly.

    Re: Red Zone....

Last year this team was proud of its red zone defense.

Its time for this defense to step up.

I could understand last weeks performance if the Patriots defense sucked.

They do not suck, they are twice as good as the Miami offense

    Re: Red Zone....

You are right. That one bad game really makes their D stats look bad.

Remember Up til that game the D only allowed 10 points per game no
matter what their 3rd dn or red zone stats were in those two games.

Is there reason for concern? If you think the Miami game was
a good indicator of what this D is then you're probably throwing
    in the towel already.

For me and others here ... it is way too soon to conclude anything.

Let's see what this D looks like after another 3 or 4 games. ;)

    Re: Red Zone....

2005 saw some pretty bad defensive numbers that picked up at the end of the season with the Beisel/Starks saga.

As for this year, getting gouged for almost 500 yards of offense and 38 points equates to 13 PPG and 167 YPG without adding in the statistics from the other two games. That's a pretty significant statistical contribution. The team did okay defensively its first two games, but needed shutouts to offset the meltdown.

I still believe the defense has the personnel to get the job done, but we will see if the Fish game was an anomaly or the actual defense next week. The same of the offense.

You're post(s) weren't on my mind and wasn't really thinking of any one
    post.
But I sense in your response you may be suffering from
paranoia ("baseless or excessive suspicion of the motives of others")
get over it or get some professional help. ;)
Other than that you will have to explain "bandwagon bullsh!t" as I
have no idea what you are talking about.

Well you and a few others on this board believe in the Patriots.

    The rest of us suck.

It makes it hard on those of us who may look at something and see both positive and negtative.

Some only see positive. Most of them are on meds.

    Re: Red Zone....

i think last week was a letdown game and the true adjusting to life after brady will start in san fran.

i don't think this team can run the ball as much as they need to.

teams are going to double moss in the red zone constantly

i'd like to see ventrone actually. th guy is quick
