I think this is a first for me since I don't remember ever posting about music on this site ever before, but..........

Two weeks ago I heard Brandi Carlile for the first time. Her second album The Story comes out April 3rd.

I heard her single The Story for the first time on the car radio a few nights ago and immediately cell phoned my office voicemail to remember the name and song - I've never done that before.

Since then I've found her websites and heard many of her songs just by Googling her name.

I can only say, she is going to be a BIG star.

Well folks, the cat is officially out of the bag:

She's no longer as secret, but I still get to see her on the 24th at the Birchmere in Virginia -- probably one of the last times she plays a small venue!

I went to her website, saw all of the merchandising and marketing and knew that she could sing like Bruce Springsteen or Keith Richards and a whole lot of people would buy her music.

    Art, it's a subjective thing.

    Just use your ears.

As I mentioned in my first post above, I first heard her out of the blue on my car radio back in February. It was like a lightning bolt.

If you think she sounds like Keith Richards, then perhaps Tom Brady is Hugh Millen.

All the french pastry that Columbia Records is doing now is after the fact. Her voice and her music is in a different universe from anything out there now.

1/2 Patsy Cline, 1/2 Janis Joplin.

No, her voice is fine. But she could sing like a chipmunk and she'd still sell records. It's just the music business.

I'm a lyricist what do I care about harmony?

Man, what's the deal? You are a walking wet blanket. This is like the fourth post in a row regarding Brandi Carlile or Kurt Vonnegut Jr. that you have followed my post with a Dan Shaughnessy.

OK, ok, we get the message.

I can't help it. When I heard her song on the radio two months ago, that moment hit me like a thunderbolt.

Much like John Landau in 1975 when he first heard Springsteen, hearing Brandi Carlile out of the blue for the first time on my car radio renewed my faith that great music can still be produced even in this jaded day and age.

Good for you, and I mean that. There's nothing that will un-jade it for me I'm afraid.

You admit to watching a chick flick TV show?

(Posted by a hypocrite who just watched a Louisa May Alcott movie on WE with his wife)

Heh, heh. Actually, it was the first time I ever watched it. My wife likes it, though.

There was only one reason why I turned it on last night. An amazing artist who opened her set a few nights ago with Credence's "Fortunate Son" mixed in her and her band's original music and then threw in the Beatles' "I've Just Seen a Face" in harmony.

In an age of dancers and models masquerading as musicians, Brandi Carlile and her band feels like a breath of fresh air.

BTW, this Louisa Alcott gal........does she play her own instruments????? :)

I have tickets to the Portsmouth Music Hall to see Brandi Carlile live on May 4th. Bought them a month ago.

Too bad they just cancelled Imus' May appearance there. :)

Awesome! My wife and I are going to the April 24th at The Birchmere in Virginia. Can't wait.

BTW, have you been over to www.againtoday.com? Great site, and their fan forum is much mellower than ours here!

You are in for a TREAT!

The concert two nights ago at the Birchmere was incredible.

Top musician (and band) at the peak of her craft. She brought down the frikikin house.

Just went to the Brandi Carlile concert at the small 1890 Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH last night.

    Out-friggin'-standing!

What a dynamic range from chest echoing rock to her encore where she came out and sang without accompanyment, instruments or a microphone using the acoustics of the old theater (they were designed pre-electronics).

Cary Brothers as the opening act was very good as well. His cellist was hawt!
