    1. The bad taste left in the mouth of the Patriots from the Colts loss. I don't think I've ever heard BRady or BB so distrught after losses. It sounded like Brady had been crying in the locker room during his postgame interview(nasal sound). BB the next day sounded like he lost a family member. The guy was totally out of it.

    2. The obvious reason is the Pats have extra picks and a large amount of salary cap room.

    3. The Colts and Ravens are close to the cap and stand to lose a few key players. San Diego lost both coordinators as well as another asst I believe.

    4. The offense has a full off season and half a season to get in sync.(McDaniels is more seasoned)

    5. Rodney will be a complete season removed from the major knee reconstrcution.

    6. In all likelihood they shouldn't have 15 players with the flu next year.

The bottom line is they can't be happy the way they lost. They will be a team on a mission with one goal in mind and that is to win the Superbowl. Watching the 84 49ers draws parallels to what the Pats will accomplish.

The Pats obviously care nothing about Pro Bowl berths and care only about the big prize.

    #17 Jersey

    Easy answer....BOTH....2007 & 2008 thank you.

Might back to back X 2 in a decade solidify the GOAT designation we all seek?? Works for me!!

5 out 8 back to back x 2 = GOAT and there would still be a couple of year left in the decade!!

    #24 Jersey

That was the 2006 SB, it was just played in 2007. It was for the 2006 season.

I'm not just thinking about 2007/8, but the Patriots are still - and even moreso - primed to be competitive year in and year out for the long haul.

I think next year we start Dynasty II or Dynasty I continued, depending on how you view dynasties.

We have the money and the picks to add a plethora of contributing players to this roster.

I'm expecting big things from Maroney, Jackson & Thomas next season. The way I'm looking at Chad Jackson is that he is almost a draft pick from this offseason that we are adding to the mix. Same goes for Garret Mills & Thomas to some extent.

I agree obviously. I see this as Part 2 like you say much like the Steelers of the 70's. The fans are upset so just imagine how the players feel.

I think the offense will be pretty good next year but will explode the following year when CJ and Maroney go into their 3rd year. Check out college stats of CJ in his junior year.

Could Dave Thomas become our Dallas Clark? or could Mills fills that role?

I'll wait to see how the '07 season plays out before I get too confident about the Pats winning it all again. I'm off the 'Pats can still win out of the 4 seed' bandwagon and I'll tell you why- the last couple of postseasons the Pats have suffered meltdowns of EPIC proportions and its mainly due to the fact that they have to play an extra game and take extra road trips.

If the Pats don't get a bye they'll likely miss out on another Lombardi.

that is true, they need a bye and homefield, but I feel that is coming this year.

you had to figure this year was not their year with the offensive struggles and everyone was banking on ben watson.

even the year before the team had struggles in the secondary and couldn't stop the pass.

    the common thread?

each season the team had a major struggle in a key area and it took the better half of a season until it got fixed. each season the team fixed that area and went into the playoffs on a winning streak.

now the area i'd be a bit concerned about IF they don't address it is the linebacker situation which will reveal itself in the next several weeks. and to a lesser extent i'd feel concerned about the secondary but at the same time rodney is coming back and sanders was playing great, you still have hawkins and hobbs. maybe you still have asante but i think they'll add talent if they lose him.

i lke your optimism, but i think you have to reserve judgment until after free agency and the draft, they have to make a little splash in free agency by signing their own, or bringing in some impact players, no exuse now they have the time and money

Hmmm. Pretty much the exact same things you were saying after you lost to Denver last year...

You're like a broken record, dude.

Give up. The Pats "dynasty" is DEAD!

If the Pats went 8-8 and missed the playoffs, I might have considered possibly in some cases agreeing with you.

I feel less confident about that this coming season than last year - we had a schedule tailor-made for a bye and we ruined it with some pitiful showings at home.

I'd agree with you with the Jets loss, but we got the Broncos when their defense peaked, and we got the Colts before their defense broke down and they had that string of late-season losses.

Yeah except I wasn't counting on losing Branch and the Pats only had one #1 that year.

But you are partly right. Two years without a bye and on the road for the divisional round doesn't help matters. But these past two years have been transitional with coordinators and the wr position. There will be to an extent some transition with the lb position. I think the Cowboys of the 90's showed you can't hold onto your players or your team falls off the map. There hass to be transition, just ask Shanahan going from Plummer to Cutler, ask Marty with Brees to Rivers. Every team goes through it and the Pats have transitioned well.

The Pats play the NFC East this year. Dallas- new headcoach, NY Giants- No Tiki, Skins- Jason Campbell, and Eagles- McNabb back form the knee.

    Disable Jersey

What meltdown did they suffer? Two seasons ago, bad calls by officials turned a game completely around.

This past season, another pair of bad pass interference calls, a fair sized contingent of players who came down with the flu and clearly felt the effects, a couple of ridiculously easy passes dropped by Caldwell, and a horrible decision to pass the ball rather than run when setting up for the tying field goal turned a win/tie into a loss.

This team is the best team in football, right now. If they play the Colts 10 times, they win 7. If they play San Diego 10 times, they win 6. Nobody else is even in the same league as these three teams right now. Now they are going to add more players with the cap space they have, and you'd have to think that it's time they catch a break from the injury bug.

This team doesn't need a bye. It needs an even game called by the officials and to not get the flu, and it would have been 4 straight titles and 5 in 6 seasons.

By the end of March we should know who we are going to lose

and if we have made any meaningful additions. The crystal ball will

    be clearer by then.

this is true, and as much as I'm excited about who the pats will re-sign, sign, and draft I can't wait to see who the Colts and Ravens lose and draft.
