Reality on Cassel sets in...

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

his stats were similar to that of Ben rottenburger.

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

he is pretty bad against decent defenses

he is almost a rookie. has played 12 games. stop making knee jerk reactions. brady threw 4 INTs against denver when he faced them the first time. again ..not comparing him to brady's abilities but the team as a whole laid an egg today and pitts D has made established QB's look bad.

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

he could get better against them..
he is still learning..
maybe he wont be a pro bowler but he could be a very serviceable QB in the league

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

yeah and favre had a great day against a lousy defense

I'm not making knee-jerk reactions.......

I have stated from the first moment that the pats are better off with o'connell

and no, cassel is not the only problem, but the comparisons to brady are ridiculous......don't even go there

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

Come on! One bad game doesn't really mean much of anything. Remember how bad Brady played vs. the Steelers in the first game of 2004?

could be, but here's to hoping his career with the pats is shorter than longer and the hope that someone will give the pats something for him should the pats dare to tag him

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

you know, if the patriots do make it in the playoffs, they can be a very dangerous team, because almost all of their games lost was due to droped passes.

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

Cassel was pretty good other than the dropped passes and the "have to" throws in the 4th quarter.

he's had more than one bad game...........short memory?

yeah... if the team could just stop making stupid mistakes and play more consistently then they could be dangerous. I have yet to see it happen, but if it did, well they could make some noise

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

This is a very different game if one doesn't have the fumble on the kickoff. We went from being down 3 to being down 10.

Give a defense like Pittsburgh even that type of a lead and its very difficult to dig yourself out of that hole, especially in conditions like today.

The comparisons to Brady are ridiculous, but so is this thread.

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

Cassel is not as bad as we envisioned during the preseason nor

as good as he has appeared the last couple of weeks. It's probably

not time to trade Tom Brady just yet.

if you say so, but the pats had it handed to them in every aspect in the 2nd half

Re: reality on cassel sets in.......

He wasn't "bad" until Slater put us down 20-10 and Pittsburgh was able to come at him full force. Before that, he was having a solid performance and should have had a TD to have us up but Moss failed him.

Cassel has not let us down this year, he is a downgrade from Brady but we HAVE gotten adequate play from the QB position this whole season. The reality on this team is what you need to look at. It's a team that shoots itself in the foot too many times against good teams you can't afford to do that against. One would think in Brady's absense the rest of the guys would step it up a notch but aside from Kevin Faulk, Vince Wilfork, and Wes Welker it seems everybody has discouragingly turned it down a notch.

Your name says it all.............

Only the insane or uninformed would even think of trading Brady or replacing him with Cassel. Only the insane would now say Pats would have been better off with O'connell. Why not tell me Guttierez would have been better while your at it.??

However, the back up job Cassel has dome this year has been nothing short of amazing and terrific.

The problems today were every bit as much special teams and "D" related and inability of the "O" line to stop Pittsburgh once we tried to come from behind.

The defense is in transition mode this year as the LB;s get younger and rookies learn in the backfield. More help will come next year with the defensive backfield for sure.
