But Ohio State single-handedly could outfit an NFL team's entire linebacking corps - even one that runs a 3-4 defense - this autumn.

All three Buckeyes starters last season - A.J. Hawk, Anthony Schlegel and Bobby Carpenter - are expected to be drafted next weekend, and a fourth defender, defensive end Mike Kudla, could end up playing linebacker at the next level.

Then there is Kudla, who reminds some scouts of former Buckeyes defensive end Mike Vrabel, who has become a successful 3-4 linebacker with the New England Patriots. Kudla now weighs 261 pounds and probably would need to drop a pants size or two to play linebacker.

He also is one of the strongest players in this year's draft, as evidenced by his astounding performance on the bench press in Indianapolis. Kudla pumped out 45 repetitions of 225 pounds to tie the combine record.

Still, Schlegel characterized his friend and teammate's workout as a ho-hum performance.

"I thought he'd break it," he said. "I thought he'd get 50. He's an animal."

Kudla has very short arms, which explains his 45 reps. He was injury prone, and his game speed was very slow.
