Reactions to the Zoltan Mesko Selection

As much as I can love a fifth round punter I love Zoltan Mesko.

I have no complaints! We needed this kid, or one like him, and if he's as good as advertised, then we'll be several orders better off than we have been.

Respects,

Pro Footwall Weekly says:

Pros: "Outstanding ability to punt directionally. Good leg strength, rise and hang time. Experienced kicker in wind and rain. Good work ethic. Smart and athletic. Very productive and did not have a punt blocked in four years. First specialist in school history to be elected team captain - blends well with teammates".

Cons: "Average get-off times. Did a lot of rugby-style punting".

heh... anyone wanna lay odds on how many Mesko jerseys get sold?

Looks like the Patriots got sick of inconsistent punting over the last decade, or so, and used a fifth-round pick on heavy-legged punter. I like the pick a lot. It will help the Patriots immensely.

From a pure names perspective, the Pats have gotten some keepers in this year's draft. I mean Gronk and Zoltan, they just sound like football players. :)
I know, names don't really mean much, but they are fun to say!

The Z man was a good pick

I think people take for granted of how important having a solid punter is...Mesko fits the bill

If only we took Scott Sicko it would have been a solid trifecta

BTW: anyone else no OL selected so far by our beloved BB?

I don't think that no one here is (now) complaining about the 4th rd pick the Pats used on the Ghost, 2 time all american punter/holder(very important), he is a left footed punter, which throws return guys off. Has punted in Cold weather.

Punter has been an issue for yhears, this was an absolute NEED pick.

He played in Michigan- anyone think the crowd noise is something that is also considered in since playing constantly in from of 100,000 people can probably get you used to drowning noise

Doing a quick Google search I noticed he punts with his left foot and is listed as 6'4 240...certainly an interesting prospect.

This is something like the 4th team captain we have chosen, anyone else see a trend here??

I agree that they need a punter, and have no problem with them drafting one. I just wouldn't have done it in the 5th round. I'd rather they move up and take Ricky Sapp.

That was my initial thought as well.

However, the guy was pegged to go in the 6th round so we may have missed him if we had waited. Our 6th round pick is a comp pick at the end of the round and can't be used to trade up.

Having said that I was kind of hoping for Cam Thomas (NT) as insurance in case Brace doesn't pan out. But SD picked him at 146 so he was off the board when we picked.

Hopefully this punter's got game.

We definitely needed a punter and this guy was the best prospect out there, but nonetheless the 5th round is really high and I hope this doesn't turn into something like the Vinny Cerrato/Durant Brooks situation in Washington when Vinny drafted Brooks in the 6th round and then cut him a few weeks into the season.

I like it. If he sticks as our P for the next 4-5 years at least then it means he was well worth the 5th. Field position wins can turn a game around
