Is he still around, and could he contribute in the future? I remember Ted Johnson saying he could be a real sleeper, solid frame with good speed, smart player, and can hit like a brick.

Practice Squad most of the season - future's contract, allocated to NFLE.

There was an excellent story about Ray Ventrone in PFW a couple of months back. BB and his college coach really raved about him. At the very least, I think he has a chance to be the Pats new special team ace with Davis and Izzo getting older because of the way he throws his body around. If you can get a hold of the story, give it a read. It tells how his college coaches had to hold him out of practice because he was hurting too many people. That sounds like a BB kind of player. I believe he is headed to NFL Europe so hopefully he can play well there and contribute some next season.

BB a fan???

Roster talk

Who might fill the 53rd spot on the Patriots’ roster?

Head coach Bill Belichick said earlier this week that he imagined the team would fill its open roster spot by Sunday’s game. Today, he was asked about two possibilities from the team’s practice squad –- safety Ray Ventrone (5-10, 200) and defensive lineman Santonio Thomas (6-4, 308).

“Ray brings it every day, he has a great attitude, he works hard,†Belichick said of the rookie free agent from Villanova. “He’s been the Practice Player of the Week a couple of times. We kind of designate that, guys who excel and give the team a good look in practice to prepare the guys who are going to play.

I hope Ventrone can turn into a ST ace because I sure don't want to keep Michael Stone on the roster. Excellent job for us on ST, but his defense was horrible.

Stone was very good against the run, but overran plays trying to make the big hit in the passing game - which is kind of surprising considering how well he does in STs coverage. I can see him sticking for STs. Ventrone is one I liked from the TC reports and what I saw of him in pre-season, since he was injured his senior year the playing time in Europe may help him compete in TC better.
