I'm "kind of" surprised they tendered him that high with his injury problems of late. But if Randall stays healthy he is a good investment.

Re: Randall Gay offered $1.3 million contract

I am firmly in Blue's corner.

I think that, if he can stay healthy, many will be surprised at just how good he is in 2007.

Re: Randall Gay offered $1.3 million contract

In a league where 53 players share a $109M salary cap, the average salary is over $2M. So I don't think 1.3M is "that high" for a decent corner. Gay is a good insurance policy - he started for a Super Bowl winning team - and he is still young.

Plus there is a good chance someone will pay him more than that and then we get a 2nd round draft pick. It's win-win all the way.

Wonder if Mangini and Jets would had tried to sign him if the Pats didn't offer him the tender. Also, I think this might address my concern of how the Pats assessed their corner situation. It seems they don't disregard the fact that they need corners after this and franchising Samuel. Whether they come to an agreement with Samuel is a whole different issue.

Funny thing about the Samuel situation....

When Charles Woodson was offerred the franchise tag from the Raiders, he and his agent jumped on it. Samuel doesn't sound as pleased with the whole deal.

Does anyone else find themselves hoping someone signs him to an offer so we can have a 2nd round pick? I doubt that will happen, and think he was tendered that high because BB wants him.

If Mangini and the jets would like to give us their 2nd rounder for Gay, they're more than welcome. Good news indeed.

yep.......... Nice to see BB take advantage of the new CBA rules. Blue solidifies the CB situation a bit going into the draft.

Good news. Gay is a great contributor when healthy, yes. Right now he's our #3 CB and if Asante or Hobbs were to go down (hope not), he could also step in and fill that void as he has done in the past.

Re: Randall Gay offered $1.3 million contract

Woodson was franchised 2 years in a row. The first year he was definitely not happy @ all. When they franchised him the second year it guaranteed him 20% above the average of the top-5 DB's, and yes, he jumped at it. IIRC it made him $1.5M more than any other CB at that time.

after the last few days I hate to say it but I agree with you:eek:

I think while blue helped us win a SB a few years back, he came out of no where to do so and he could have been a one year wonder. more importantly with his injury issues a second round pick sounds much better.

Ok well now that i know what the whole deal is, i'd be disapointed of the Pats hadn't done this.

It seems like the obvious move.

$1.3M is cheap money to retain him when the vet min is $850 and it keeps him away from the Jets. If he's healthy he can be a good nickel cb for cheap and if anybody gives us a second all the better.

Wow, so you think that he was tendered high because Belichick wants him?

One of the disadvantages of not being a part of the circle club. :D
