Do you think the Patriots would make a move for him?

Morrison is a decent player, but he's overrated and IMO Belichick feels comfortable with the Mayo/McKenzie/Guyton trio. If he adds a new ILB, it will be more of a 2nd tier guy who could accept a backup role if McKenzie doesn't play well or if Guyton regresses.

The Pats don't have a 3rd round pick anyways. So you can put the kibosh on that idea.

If the Pats really want him not having a 3rd round pick this year is not a deal buster.

Yah, let's trade picks to the Raiders for players again. It's worked out so well the last couple times.

Uh, well, yes. Randy Moss turned out fairly well. Burgess didn't and Gabriel didn't, but I'd say that Moss more than made up for that (which was the 2nd most recent move, so your sarcastic "last couple of times" is wildly inaccurate)

If you're being sarcastic, then I hope that you've just forgotten about Randy Moss. I'd say that one worked out pretty well.

No idea how much money he wants, If it is reasonable i would trade #53 for Morrison and get #85 back.

The problem with evaluating Raiders players is that it's so difficult to get a read on individual player abilities given the team's crappy performance on the field.

At least with Moss there were hours of highlight films from his work with other teams. The only questions that had to be answered with Moss were (a) does he still have the physical ability and (b) does he have the right attitude. Those are things you can probably answer with a stopwatch and an interview.

The question for a guy like Morrison -- who's played his entire career with the Raiders -- is does he really have talent?

I can imagine watching film of him going something like this:

"Morrison was in the right position, but that lard-ass Warren Sapp didn't hold his gap assignment"

"Morrison thought Michael Huff was going to pick up the TE, that's why he let him get open for 30 yards"

"Morrison was late on the tackle because Philip Buchanon can't wrap up"

I recognize Morrison has the tackle #'s, but does he really have the stellar plays to show he has ability? And if you can't answer that, then how can you justify putting anything more than a minimal investment (i.e. 1-year see-if-he-makes-it-through-camp deal) into that kind of player? I can't imagine trading anything more than a 5th+ rounder for him.

None of that changes the fact that the Patriots fleeced the Raiders on that trade, and arguing otherwise makes you look foolish.

Re: Raiders Kirk Morrisondrawing interest from few teams

And Gabriel,Burgess and a possible Seymour trade by Al didn't get back at BB and got back AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT at this team? or do you forget the Raiders have been on the winning end lately of our trades between the two teams? (barring a major pickup at the Raiders spot in 2011 which could go either way, losing Seymour for a 2011 pick was not popular last season)

Randy was a good pickup at that year and at the time Al was crazy to do it but still his addition hasn't made a damn difference in the playoffs on our offense.

Randy has been great at times, good at times and missing in action at times in regular season games.... but in the playoffs? no where to be found - the trade back then was great but still hasn't provided a championship .....yet (close as in SB 42,but not enough)

Re: Raiders Kirk Morrisondrawing interest from few teams

The raiders definitely got the better of us on the Burgess deal. We definitely got the better of them on the Moss deal.

The other two you might call a small win for us in the Seymour. The Raiders get a good player but with the Pats draft history in the first RD particulary the top half of it is great and I Suspect we will get more out of that player than Raiders do out of Big Sey. Time will tell the true answer but it is hard to say the Raiders got the better of the deal.

and a small win for the Raiders in the Gabrial deal. This definitely favors the Raiders as Gabrial was a bust but we gave up 5 so IMO that is more than a fair deal.

So in the end I would say this trading circle has been fair to both sides and should mean that the Raiders would continue to be a trading partner.

oh yeah PS: two more things 1 Popular around here would have nothing to do with how fair the trade was we were losing a fixture of the D and that isnt easy to face despite good compensation. 2 the logic you use on Randy losing value on the trade because we didn't win a SB is flawed because the Raiders aren't even winning regular season games so by that logic we win all the trades because they didn't help the raiders win and at least in our case you can point to sucess just not ultimate success.

The Seymour deal was terrible for the Patriots.

Re: Raiders Kirk Morrisondrawing interest from few teams

    Explain your logic please.

Mine is simple as I just explained

Based on the Patriots track record with top 15 picks (Sey and Mayo) in BBs tenure I surmise we will get more production out of the Raiders pick then they will out of Seymour. This logic also gives the raiders the benifit of the rest of Seymours career which we would not have had as it was an all but certainty he was gone this offseason So really this trade from our prespective really comes down to a top ten rookie vs one year of Sey. but as this discussion is Raiders Vs Pats in the deal I will include Seys full tenure at Oak and I still see us geting more out of a top ten guy.
