U.S. News - Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

Now it's racist to chant USA?

    Poor taste... yes.... but racist?
I bet one clown started chanting and at the time it seemed like fun
    .

The players who joined in on a USA Chant are now not going to be allowed to attend
the teams remaining state title games?

That seems way our of line.

It is not like they dress up as Santa Claus for Christmas

maybe we can start a new "racism" sub-forum, moderated by cup.

Or perhaps not, now that racism has been cured.

    "USA"

    Racist---------:confused::confused::confused:

Please explain this to me, you all know I'm a little confused on this type of sh!t, where did the fans that were chanting "USA" think the other team came from, where is the insult, did the other team come from another country.

    were they Bolivians.

Re: Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

it's racist because they were chanting USA as if the opponent wasn't from the USA, which they are

they were doing it to be anti hispanic...which is racist.....

This reminds me of the hoopla that was made about Live Oak HS in Morgan Hill CA (My wife's "alma mater") when some kids wore American Flag T-Shirts on Cinco de Mayo....

ON AAF this AM the report they had indicated that the Edison High faithful who were in the crowd were chanting "Alamo Whites" during the game.

I wonder if Bruin's players, who are predominately Canadian, get offended when they play the Habs and the crowd chants "USA,USA"

    Apples and Oranges I'm sure....

The kids on the San Antonio team were not Canadians. They were Americans. And they were not playing for a high school located in another country. The only reason the Alamo kids were chanting that was because of the last names of the San Antonio kids.

    Your analogy stinks.

I was more poking fun at what I would call "fan sh*t talking", and people getting offended by it.

My analogy was an attempt at satire and apparently it failed.

Re: Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

Are illegals allowed to play on high school teams?

I hope not because they shouldn't be.

But "if" they were allowed to play and a team had a few known illegals playing for them, then chanting "USA" would actually be appropriate.

I mean, do you people want illegals to think of themselves as Americans? I don't....maybe cuz they're not Americans?

Re: Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

If a 17 year old high school kid was brought to the US illegally as an infant and was raised here, then, yes, I'd expect him to think of himself as American, I'd want him to and I'd think of him as an American.

But unless this team was made up largely of illegal aliens, this is all irrelevant to what happened -- unless you want people automatically assuming Hispanics are illegal aliens. And given the nature of high schools and rumors, I'm skeptical that the fans had any actual knowledge of illegal aliens on the other team.

Re: Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

But the fact would be that he would not be an American...so why would you think of him as such?

you are out of your mind my friend....

many "white people" had their ancestor's come through Ellis/Angel Islands, and were documented accordingly.

Your white comment in the other thread makes perfect sense.

EDIT I should add before you question, that documented=Legal, it did then, and does now.

    "oh those British"???....

There have been some whoppers on this site. Assuming you were attempting to be serious with this post, this gets up there on the WTF is this person talking about scale.

Re: Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

In maybe 200 years America will be 3 or 4 different country's and America will just sit back and allow it to happen, we are right now obsessed with the "don't offend anybody bullsh!t" that is what will lead to our destruction.

Lack of common sense, discipline and accountability leads to SH!T.

LIVE WITH IT, YOU ARE NOW SEEING THE BEGINNING OF THE END, THE FIRST THING THE NEW PEOPLE WILL DO IS BURN THE CONSTITUTION, THEY WILL WANT NO PART OF THAT.

Re: Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

He wouldn't be an American citizen. I don't think that's the same as an American. One is legal, the other cultural. To me the latter is far more important.

Your view of a person could change based on a technicality that could be discovered years, or decades, later. Yet reality would have been that he was raised in America, thought of himself as an American all his life, been part his community, learned our history, etc. Just like, say, you or me. He wouldn't be able to control what his parents did when he was an infant.
