Potential distractions surrounding the New England Patriots are far from over | masslive.com

" a source familiar with the case told me earlier this offseason that some dirty laundry is going to hit the news cycle that "the Patriots aren't going to like." One can only guess what that means. If true, it sounds like another distraction could be headed toward One Patriot Place."

what are the possible items of "dirty laundry" that have yet to hit the news? Is it drug related? was there an internal conflict between player and coach(s)? is this all just more media invention, which seems to be the latest paradigm?

this issue could be another firestorm to pop up in this summer of heated stories...can BB use this as he did the spygate crap in 2007?

what ever happened to "hey, I'll meet ya at the Razor and we'll watch practice and relax...looking forward to the season" for all of us? One grenade after another is being lobbed into our collective laps...where does it end?

Sounds like MEDIA HYPERBOLE to me.

The guy signed in the off season, maybe attended a couple of camps, the start of pre-season, and then was out injured and never even played in a single pre-season game.

Exactly what BREATHTAKING info on the Patriots-Evil-Empire would he have gleaned in those few short weeks that he actually showed up to work and pretended he could actually go??????

I would fully expect that some bogus lawyer accusation of medical staff being complicit or asking him to get shot up w/ something and still play. They will make some kind of accusation to try and keep the 3.8M (since he already spent it most likely).

Accusation will likely be something that either 31 other clubs do routinely as well (that they will try to make sound like something evil) - or that the Pats DONT actually do; but it will be hard to disprove a negative. ....

Patriots know the facts on this one and they initiated the action (knowing what could come out).

Breaking news: Fanene reveals that Brady's shoulder wasn't hurting him when he was listed as probable all those weeks. World reacts in shock and disbelief.

My guess is that the Pats won't care. Fanene was with the organization for 5 minutes. What is he going to reveal? Belichick called him bad names?

My guess is that the source was Fanene, his agent, or his lawyers trying to shoot a shot across the bow to force a settlement or make the Pats back down.

And are the proceedings even public (open to the press)? Fanene could reveal that the Pats have all the refs on the payroll, but if the proceedings are closed, no one will ever hear about it.

I believe that one of our moderators and well respected posters, jmt57 brought this up several weeks ago and we initially discussed it then.

We can only speculate as to "how much" the Patriots won't want this information to come out, or how much they feel it could potentially damage their reputation etc. Since they initiated this hearing, one would assume that they are prepared to fight, disprove, or deal with whatever comes up.

It could be something as simple as "they don't treat their injured players well enough in certain situations" etc (something in the vein of the K.Love media saga), or it could be something as serious as the way they dispense their painkillers etc--as Fanane's case called for him to take certain medications due to the undisclosed injury. Obviously it could be anything in the middle of these two extremes too.

Either way, we'll all feel better when this is over too.

That's kind of what I'm assuming it is myself, something along those lines.

As others have pointed out, apparently they feel that it's worth the recovered money or they wouldn't have initiated this whole thing :)

I'll try to get more info, but don't hold your breath waiting for it.

FWIW, here is a link to that post ... good memory on your part, better than mine.

From my experience with him Nick seems to be a stand up guy. The fact that he brings this up a second time and sort of sticks his neck out in a way that he normally does not do makes me think he is very confident in the source of his information.

Just a hunch on my part, but I think he knows something. We'll find out soon.

Nick Underhill? I live in Western MA and he writes for the Republican (or wrote, it's been a while since I read that dreadful rag). Let me just say that, if he has anything insightful to say it will be the first time. He isn't the contradictory hack that some reporters are, just the embodiment of "meh."

at this point, I welcome the dirty laundry........let's get it all out now.......giving the team a complete enema is the only way for the body to be cleansed and to really become pure

so it costs a couple of games......the division is already locked up anyway

It could also be a negotiating ploy on Fanaene's part, sort of a "let me keep part of this $$$ and I won't speak about XXXXXXXX" . If we read about a negotiated settlement or the recovery action being dropped, you'll know this is what happened...
At least if crap has to come out, it will still be off season and hopefully be less of a distraction.....

According to Nick Underhill, the ruling will come at some point in the "immediate future," so we won't be hearing any news today again on the outcome.

I'm pretty sure it's all wrapped up now. Belichick testified yesterday, and Fanane (and his wife interestingly enough) went today. Of course his agent chimed in and I'm sure there was also a physician or two.

Is it still published? I used to cover High School sports (and the Yankees for a month) for it in the early '70s but it was the Union on weekdays and Republican on Sundays if I recall correctly.

We went through two days of court proceedings without a single bombshell leaked to the press. I guess it is possible that something comes out at some point, but I am guessing whatever the dirt the source told Underhill is not all that scandalous after all. The arbitrator has the case. So there will be no more testimony.
