    Here is the situation...

    1) Team C is at home and leading Team S by 24 points in the 4th quarter
    2) Team C has the ball with 8:04 remaining in the game
    3) Team C's starting quarterback remains in the game
    4) Team C marches down the field until there is 6:15 remaining
    5) Team C's starting quarterback completes 2 passes but can't get a 1st down

Is this poor sportsmanship on the part of Team C? I don't think so...and neither did anyone in the media that I can remember.

    Soooooo...
    • It is poor sportsmanship to keep playing with your starters with a 21 point lead with 10:22 remaining in the game on the road.
    • It is just fine to keep playing with your starters with a 24 point lead with 8:04 remaining in the game at home.

Whatever. By the way, take a wild guess who Team C is?

    Nope, but thanks for playing.

Team C is none other than your paragon of sports virtue...Tony Dungy's Colts. Against the Saints opening night.

Is Team C the team that PICKED team S, and took it to the house toward the end?? WOW!!! Player G is ONE FAST MOTHA!

That pick made it a 31 point game (and yes that was a nice play by Matty G). The question is whether it was poor form to have Manning playing (and passing) with a 24 point lead at home with 8 minutes to go?

If you have no problem with that situation (and I don't), then it is difficult to have an issue with Brady playing (and passing) with a 21 point lead on the road with 10+ minutes to go.

    Just sayin...

I fixed your post for you :)

There is no such thing as bad sportsmanship. With a 3500 point lead the team winning should continue to pile it on if they wish.

Evidently, you're unaware of the dynamic this board has been dealing with the past 7 weeks.

He's not only hitting out at the Colts, but the fact that everyone and their mama has been complaining that the Pats have been pouring it on too much. He's saying everyone (even the "Saintly Colts") do it.

From your post it seems like you agree with us.

Agree with your premise, but I think you take the key from the losing side. If the opposition starts to substitute (essentially conceding defeat), I think it would be pretty lame to keep your starters in and pile on.

If the opposition is playing like the game is still in question, you should too.

Well, duh, which teams start with C? Cardinals? Nah, they're just so happy to be winning that they didn't know what quarter it was; besides, they play in a pathetic division, so it's no fun to pick on them. Chiefs? Nah, this isn't a Jets Board so we're not out to get Herm. Well, that leaves, um, the COLTS.

The dynamics here are structurally sound. If the opposition concedes defeat (unlike Phillips, who calls timeouts), you have a choice of either piling on (to make it an exclamation point game) or substituting (to reduce the risk of injuries to starters).

The Pats and BB analyze the risk/rewards of each game cirmcumstance and make the choice accordingly. Sometimes it's important down the road to intimidate; sometimes it's not. Whatever is best for the team. It's obvious that BB doesn't care what the media-bots think!
