Question on Revis' contract

Yes, I know, put it in the existing thread(s) (where no one will see it), but simple question.

5 years/ 70 M with 48M over the first 3 years and 39 guaranteed (or something).

So the last 2 years are 22M total? 11M per year? Why would he sign a contract that gives him no leverage in the final years? He'd have to hold out and the team wouldn't have to negotiate at that point. Seems like if they wanted to stretch out a bonus for cap reasons, why not put a huge number on the final year(s)? That way he's protected.

Question on Revis' contract

Guaranteed money is the only thing you look at in NFL contracts, basically this is a 3 year 48 million dollar contract with 39 million dollars of it guaranteed. The last 2 years are just there so that the Jets can spread out the bonus money over time for salary cap purposes.

Of course, if Revis is still playing at a high level when year 4 comes around, he will hold out for another contract.

We need another Revis thread.

Yes, that's my point. He put himself at risk...suppose he holds out and they don't budge? Then what? He retires? It's the team's option to pay him at that point or cut him...why give them a cheap option if there's no way you'll honor it (unless your play has declined).

Might as well make the last 2 years 25M a year with a big roster bonus, that way he's protected. If they want to keep him, they have to pay. Plus it raises the contract's stated value for bragging rights.

There is no bonus money in the contract. His salaries for 2015, 2016 and $6M of 2017 are the only guarantees. It's a straight cap=cash contract. Kind of like with TB but this one has guarantees.

Question on Revis' contract

it comes out to 14M per year

for once with Revis, it wasn't about the money

I believe he wanted to go to Jetland because now it can be all about him and his island......there will be no conversations about who is king of that roster......he didn't like sharing the spotlight with offensive guys like brady, gronk, and edelman

now it is about Revis island and the sincere hope that Gronk has a chance to bounce him into a TV camera stand
