I've been checkin' this site out recently, so I thought I'd link it for the more statistically inclined.
check the 'player participation' tabs and some of the subcategory tabs under the 'offense' and 'defense' tabs.

I think there's some interesting stuff in there, anyway.
unfortunately, their database of games can be somewhat limited.

and no, I don't work for them and this is not a spam ad.

Looks like a great way to lose an hour or two. :D

Seriously, though, if you look at it, you can see how the Pats O was basically a one-TE offense almost the entire season (there were a couple of games midseason where they utilized a 2-TE offense with Watson and Thomas). Even Cassel's first start, they didn't appear to go into max-protect mode for him.

Troublesome. They discuss normalization, but when you look at game changing players like Welker & Moss rated down around 100 with a player like Kelly Washington rated higher, you have to say there's a flaw in their system.

So weird a good way of seeing some numbers but there raises many questions.

For one how did they set up this excel sheet? Some math is obviously wrong

The participation stats and formations are truly unique, but the ratings need help. QBs are favored and WRs are not.

    i don't trust their numbers.

according to them in 2007 the number of plays each player participated in.....

    *Randy Moss 1096
    *Wes Welker 1011
    *Donte' Stallworth 855
    *Jabar Gaffney 810
    *Kelley Washington 474
    *Chad Jackson 64
    *Troy Brown 32
    *Kyle Brady 734
    *Ben Watson 649
    *Wesley Britt 113
    *Marcellus Rivers 69
    *Stephen Spach 64
    *Dave Thomas 41
    *Matt Light 1123
    *Logan Mankins 1123
    *Nick Kaczur 1050
    *Dan Koppen 1049
    *Russ Hochstein 642
    *Steve Neal 576
    *Ryan O'Callaghan 205
    *Billy Yates 117
    *Tom Brady 64
    Matt Gutierrez 1
    Matt Cassel 0

    *Heath Evans 493
    *Laurence Maroney 313
    *Kyle Eckel 226
    *Kevin Faulk 171
    *Sammy Morris 142

While I don't know the correct number number for Tom Brady, it was greater than 65.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Troy Brown only return two punts during the 2007 season?

Yeah, the ratings are interesting to say the least.

Wes Welker, with 112 catches and 1165 yards is rated #93, well behind a flurry of guys with only one catch for the entire year:

    #39 - David Clowney
    #45 - Marques Hagans
    #50 - Allan Rossum
    #52t - Roy Hall
    #52t - Kelley Washington
    #52t - Eric Weems
    #58 - CHAD JACKSON-#58
    #63 - Drew Bennett
    #72 - Paul Williams
    #77t - Jerome Simpson
    #84t - Ernest Wilford
    #84t - Yamon Figurs
    #84t - Steve Sanders

If that isn't weird enough, here are guys with zero catches who rate higher as wide receivers than Welker:

    #58t - Mark Bradley
    #58t - Brian Clark
    #56t - Earl Bennett
    #56t - Terrnence Cooper
    #74 - Cliff Russell
    #77t - Mark Slater
    #84t - Adam Jennings
    #84t - Eddie Kennison

At RB, former Patriot standout Patrick Cobbs is the 10th best RB in the league, leaving everyone in the dust (Adrian Petersen is #26, Chris Johnson's 1200 yards gets him tied for #67, and the 1000-yard seasons of Frank Gore and Ryan Clark places them at #119 and #127.
