I always like BB's pre-draft press conferences. It shows we are finally there, at the draft. Also, Bill always get as first question: how is the LB group this year. :D

I understand that BB is going to supply detailed information on

who he is going to draft this year including a list of names.

I heard the that Bill will tell everyone with 100% certainty that Jerod Mayo was in fact the 10th pick of the 2008 draft and he projects well into his defensive system.

I don't think there is a press conference I look less forward to. Belichick isn't forthcoming with the information in general during press conferences, but he is even less forthcoming in his predraft presser. I do look forward to the annual question of why doesn't Belichick like drafting LBers early in the draft. Maybe with the drafting of Mayo, that question won't be asked this year. One can hope.

That is a truly weird statement, unless you're a reporter...

I love BB presser's because I love jerking people around and he's kind of a role model in that respect...

BB: Great day, great day. Hey Ron, looking good, we'll talk later. What's up CHB, keep it positive...if you can. Sorry I'm a little late....you've seen her picture.

Fat Bastard: Coach, will you allow the team to talk to me this year?

BB: I love this guy.......hey fella, is that a black helicopter flying over head? To answer your question ...........................................................................................no!

Mike Reiss: I calculate that the team needs depth at OLB,ILB,S, and WR.

BB: Good to see you Mike. The insider phone number has been changed, talk to my #4. Next question!

Jacksonville Telegram: Coach, is the signing of Fred Taylor an indictment on Maroney?

BB: I'm not familiar with that name?

ESPN: With the surplus of picks in this years draft, many veterans will inevitably be cut. Will the hatred spill out of the lockerroom?

BB: Security, escort the Soap reporter out please.

NFL Network: Your legend is growing, many compare you to Vince Lombardi, your Patriots are the gold standard that teams attempt to emulate, you work in the finest facility in the world, your boss is selfless, generous, without fault.........

BB: Thanks for the kind words. Hey Bob, can we get this young man a ring, from the Putin box?

BB: Ok, about the draft. we gotta few picks, hope to pick a couple a players, add a little depth, add some competition. We'll try to get em in a game by the end of the season...we'll see.

Herald: Can we get cameras in the war room?

BB: There they go with the cameras again.

I disagree heavily with the bolded part. Belichick is extremely forthcoming with info IF ITS FOOTBALL RELATED. If you ask him a question about emotions, or reputations, or anything like that, he gives you a canned response. You ask him an intelligent question about FOOTBALL, and he'll talk for 25 minutes. The problem is, reporters rarely ask non-story questions.

Well, today is a great example of this. He's being quite expansive on general questions and pulling the "bob and weave" with specific questions on the draft.

That was awesome. He said absolutely nothing for like 30 consecutive minutes. He should really go into politics.

    My interpretation:

    • Woods is getting packaged in a trade. - Just humour me, that seemed awfully stumbly there.
    • They are moving up in the first for someone if at all possible. See: "The higher the pick, the better the talent."
    • The Peppers Trade is on.

Barwin, Butler and Peppers. There's your Patriots Day one. Book it, Dano.

Also, everything he said was a smokescreen. Or a double smokescreen.

    So there. ;)

He said plenty. He just didn't say it on topics that would give lots of information on the draft. To stick with your politics analogy, it was like a Supreme Court candidate refusing to comment on abortion, but spending hours discussing how decisions are rendered and published by the lower courts.

    #50 Jersey

    He said nothing?

    1) Mentioned that the process of evaluation hasn't changed with the loss of Pioli and the additions of Reese and Licht (pronounced Light).

    2) That there has been preliminary talks about trading picks with a number of teams.

    3) Called the UCONN Pro Day exciting and praised Randy Edsall for the quality of player he's producing there.

    4) Comments on Andre Smith's skills, but not his intangibles..

    5) Admitted that this year's draft, even from their perspective, has no clear #1 player at numerous positions, including QB, CB, S, WR, RB, and OT.

You may not have found the tidbits interesting, but others probably did.

    #50 Jersey

As for Peppers, until he signs the tender, the Pats/Panthers can't consumate a trade. And things aren't looking good for Peppers to sign that tender. That being said, a trade for Peppers that included Woods would help the Patriots salary cap situation since Woods doesn't have a signing bonus as part of his tender. And Woods would probably fit very well as a DE for the Panthers.

I think that, while Belichick did mention the potential for moving up big, I think he's more than content to only make small hops in this draft and that the Pats could be looking at 4 picks still on day 1.

I love the way you think, my friend. :) I hope that it happens.

I do find it interesting that Peppers' name continues to be mentioned by BB without anyone asking him about the player. Very interesting indeed.

Some of his press conferences are entertaining, but most are just boring. Most of the reporters know they aren't going to get any information from him and don't get jerked around anymore because they don't even bother asking questions they know aren't going to be answered and even if they do, they don't bother to follow up when Belichick gives them the brush off.
