... and the odds of winning are 175 million to one. It's being called a tax on the poor who can't do math. :singing:

So, who here is buying a ticket? And, what would you do with the dough?

I bought 10 dollars worth of tickets, but was only charged 5 dollars, so I've already won. Half a billion dollars at this point would just be gravy.

Ugh wish I could play, I would have to drive 4 hours to the boarder to play, since in Utah we can't gamble....or shop on Sundays in some counties.

Gotta love these red states! They scream about freedom and liberty but only if it suits their ideology.:bricks:

If I were to play and were to win, I would give 95% of it away, more money more problems, would pay off the house, pay off the bills and put money away for college for the kids, would pay off family debts and give college money to all my friends and family.

The rest would go into a fund to help people, would open a treatment center for drug addicts and open a learning center for kids, open a shelter for women who are abused, would open a boy's and girl's club that would be open 24/7/365. Would open a business center and give loans out to those that graduate at .1% interest.

Since I would do good with the money, that means I wouldn't win anyways....only selfish idiots seem to win....

Ain't that the truth? If I won I'd become a full-time philanthropist. I can think of nothing more fulfilling.

If I won, would make sure my family is well taken care of along with my close circle of friends....

Would fund a few start up businesses that I have had in my mind for a while...

    Become a philanthropist..

Yup, even if it is only $250 mill after taxes, if taken in one lump sum. 65% of $500 mill is 325 million less 25% Fed taxes and no income tax on it here in PA. I spent $4 but if I won, I'd set up trusts to hide my identity so no one and I mean no one would know I won.....Too many hassles..
Think of it. Invest at 4% in bonds and live on income of $13 million per year....That's $250K per week......
I'll be at work tomorrow when I don't win......

It absolutely is a tax on the poor. In Massachusetts, at least, it is a redistribution of wealth from poor communities to wealthy ones. Keno outlets are much more numerous per capita in poor communities than wealthy ones. Therefor, more money is being taken out of the poor communities.

Now here's da rub: All the money taken by the state from the players (taxed) is distributed throughout the state on a per capita basis. Assume New Bedford is the same population as Cambridge. Cambridge receives the same amount of distribution as New Bedford, even though New Bedford put 20X the money into the system. There are very few Keno outlets in Cambridge compared to N'Befah. Bonus! The wealthy get more money from the poor.
    Whaddaya know!

And that doesn't even count scratch tickets!

    Massachusetts' dirty little secret.

I bought 10 tickets. Last week I bought 5. If I won, I'd use half the money to set up a foundation to help people, especially people over 25 years old (who get very few services) with PTSD get job training and jobs. I think that may be the biggest need in making our society more just.

Here's a little piece of advice.....next time you have the urge to play the lottery, take that $15 you wasted on the lottery and send it to the Wounded Warrior Project to actually help our soldiers who suffer from PTSD.

IMO that's something our government should take care of, not a charity....Raise taxes on the rich or cut some Pentagon programs and fund this instead. We should take care of our vets! We shouldn't need charities for these kinds of things, they should be part of the budget and part of the system already.

I'm not giving any money to any charity, because I don't feel like my money going to line the pockets of the program managers or CEO's.

Given that I took a $60k pay cut (not including the costs of going back to college for an MA) for the opportunity to work with people with PTSD (including veterans), treating myself to about $50 of lottery tickets/year doesn't seem to be too selfish.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that it was a "treat" for you. From your post, helping PTSD victims sounded like your reason for buying the tickets.

I bought 2 tickets...and the thought of winning actually scares me a bit. Not that I wouldn't want to win. Just that much money can be dangerous.

    If I won, I'd prolly ...

-move closer to my family & friends.
    -share it the above
-make each family member attend financial advisor courses before they got the $$
-Tell each of the above, this is a one shot deal, you get don't any more
-Try to live my life similar to the way I do now....except be retired
-Start a charity and make my younger family members work do work for it
-Would not give my nephews and niece any lump sum until they're older (25-30). I wouldn't want them killing themselves with the $$.
-Buy a house in the mtns of NH

    Don't have to worry, cuz I won't win....and that's ok

That's true because when we give money to the government it goes directly to the causes we want supported with absolutely no administrative or bureaucratic costs whatsoever.

Some people want our gov't to take care of all our problems. Despite the fact that our gov't create most of our problems....

This is such an absurd sentiment on so many levels.

Lottery winners shouldn't pay for it, Barack Hussein Obama should:

Barack Hussein Obama is the commander in chief, he could have ended these wars 4 years ago and stopped all of the injury's that the troops have suffered since 2008.

Instead of giving millions of dollars to General Motors Obama should have spent that money on his Soldiers and their families, he is the cause of their injury's, the stupid Anti War Liberals went to the polls and put the Left Wing War Monger Rat right back in the White House so he can continue getting American Soldiers Killed and Crippled.

    Answer This One Lefty's:
What has changed since the Hated Bush was president?

Give Michelle's vacation money to a Wounded Warrior.

GW Bush is down in Texas, smiling.
