Beat you to it mgteich! Now, I'll have to go mow the grass...LOL

QB 3 - Brady, Hoyer, Mallett
RB 4 - BJGE, Woodhead, Vereen, Ridley
TE 3 - Crumpler, Gronkoski, A. Hernandez
WR 5 - Branch, Welker, Edelman, Price, Tate, UFA
OL 9 - Solder, Mankins, Koppen, Connelly, Vollmer
Levoir, Wendell, Ohrnberger, Ojinnaka(I think we'll sign)
DL 7 - Wilfork, Warren, Stroud, Brace, Deaderick, Pryor, Love
LB 8 - Mayo, Spikes, TBC, Ninkovich, Cunningham
Guyton, Fletcher, Moore
DB 10 - McCourty, Bodden, Darling, Meriweather, Chung, Sanders
Arrington, Butler, S. Brown, J. Page
P - Mesko
K - Gostkowski
LS - Katula

I'm not mathematically challenged. I only put 52 on there. I expect to sign a free-agent wr. Other changes I could see are J. Barrett over J. Page. I think we cut Willhite. Cut Kaczur when we re-up Ojinnaka. I can see Lee Smith rookie TE pushing for a spot too.
M. Cannon will start the year on PUP I'm sure. I didn't put Mike Wright in there either. Want to see him pass the physical. Then, he's on and K. Love is out. The other area of opportunity to sign a free-agent who can help is OLB. Not sure what to expect out of Eric Moore. Obviously, an area we can upgrade. Let's get a free-agent wr and olb and kick it off. We're in great shape cap wise.

Assuming he proves himself in camp, Lee Smith will need to be added to the tight-end group. Have the Patriots ever carried four tight ends before? I see Hernandez being the sixth WR in your scenario above.

Also reading the list above, I am not sure we have a gunner (or two) for the special teams. Some changes probably need to made.

I'm 100 pct sure my roster is not correct. A couple of special teams who will help are Josh Barrett - S and S. Ridley - RB. I think we'll see less of K. Arrington at cb this year and more on special teams. I had ESPNU on when we picked Lee Smith. I think it was the ND coach said he was Marshall's best player. Played them at Cincy I guess. I can see A. Hernandez as a WR. I'd like to upgrade Tate/Price then...LOL...

See below for differences from my post yesterday (buried in a draft board post)

A) I see Smith as the 4th TE. He is Crumpler's replacement next year, and is a backup deep snapper. He is an excellent blocking TE (the best in this year's draft). If you think that we need a six roster spot wideout, consider Hernandez as a wideout. But the reality is that the 6th spot has usually been used for a STer like Slater, Aiken or Ventrone.
B) I would also sign Ojinnaka., hoping that Maneri could beat him out for a roster spot.
C) We need a 3rd starting OT. Kaczur is under contract. Solder may be ready on Day 1, or not. Kaczur could still be a starter for us at both LT and RT. Kaczue would be especially important if there is a major delay is the starting of camp.
D) I agree with your defense, although Wilhite could beat out Page or Brown for the last spot, if no one is added. However, a ST specialist could be added. Also, Slater could win one of these roster spots. We really don't need more than 8 defensive backs. However, a 9th or 10th who are also special teamers is indeed a plus.
E) As always, we ignore the ST only specialists at this point. White and Slater were valuable special teamers last year and we seem to always keep at least two such players.
F) I too see us looking for a wide receiver in free agency, also a front seven player or two or three. We need camp competition.
G) I see the 2011 roster being at least 56. If the CBA isn't signed until late, there will be little time to get rookies ready. Alternatively, if a CBA is signed early, many have suggested a roster expansion as part of the new CBA.

4 TE (Grankowski, Hernandez, Crumpler, Smith)
5 WR (Branch, Welker, Edelman, Tate, Price)

I just did this exercise myself and I knew someone else would have done it.

3 QBs
4 RBs
3 TEs (L. Smith practice squad)
5 WRs
Solder, Mankins, Light, Koppen, Vollmer, Kaczur, LeVoir, Connolly (Cannon PUP, Maneri if Kaczur is cut)
Katula, Gost, Mesko

T. Warren, Wilfork, Stroud, Deadrick, Brace, Pryor, Love (Wright PUP or cut)
Cunningham, Mayo, Spikes, Guyton, Ninkovich, Fletcher (Banta-Cain replaced by FA?)
McCourty, Bodden, Meriweather, Chung, Dowling, Butler, Sanders, Arrington, Wilhite, Page, T. White, Lockett OR Slater (a little concerned about Wilhite, Page, and Sanders' salaries, all potential cuts because of that, but I would keep 12 DBs)

Notable cuts: Ohrnberger, Ojinnaka, G. Warren, E. Moore, J. Barrett, McGowan, Slater OR Lockett. Sergio Brown to PS and maybe Lockett is eligible.

I'm at 51 with a spot given ALREADY to a FA OLB. That puts me at 52. (I'm sorry, I just have a lot of distaste for Banta-Cain's play last year).

I thought Kazcur was good as gone?

Lee Smith can beat out Katula for LS hopefully. Atleast Lee can come in on goalline sets with 3 TEs and help the team.

I'm curious to see Markell Carter during preseason. I want this kid to show something and make the team.

Eric Moore will not be cut.

Some folks seem to think so. Let us presume for a moment that Light is gone. With a short offseason, I think it would be sort of nuts not to keep Kaczur as a backup OT or even starting OT until Solder is ready. THe only other real alternative is Ojinnaka, which certainly makes sense. Belichick is not counting on Solder to start with no Plan B as a starter or backup.

It would be nuts to keep a $3.2 million backup OT. Kaczur has already said he will not take a pay cut.

OK, so you would make Solder a starter, and if he isn't ready or if there is any injury at OT, you are ready to start Maneri or LeVoir?

We have four OT positions. Add them up. It is a reasonable cap hit or even cash hit, even if Kaczur is paid $3.2M. And, of course, he isn't taking a pay cut.

I'm not mathematically challenged. I only put 52 on there.

That's 52 without the UFA WR, and without Slater/White or replacements for same.

Going so heavy on DBs, one would thing that speed guys as ST coverage specialists wouldn't be needed, but every year there seems to be one anyway (beyond the Sergio Brown/Arrington level).

Ditto an inside guy -- Izzo/White/whoever.

If Lee Smith isn't on the Roster, and he's as good of a blocking TE as everyone says he is, then, I can't imagine he doesn't get picked up by another team, and probably the Jets, considering how they like to run, and they owe us one for picking up Woodhead. A TE like that with NFL bloodlines, that does all the dirty work in the trenches and can longsnap? I'm not sure how he lasted so long.

Stick him out there in a 3 TE set or an eligible Tackle, (since some teams seen him as a tackle prospect possibly) and slip him out into the endzone, and I guarentee you no one is going to be covering him.

Notable cuts: Ohrnberger, Ojinnaka, G. Warren, E. Moore, J. Barrett, McGowan, Slater OR Lockett. Sergio Brown to PS and maybe Lockett is eligible.

I would say there's next to no chance that E. Moore is cut. Given the depth at DE/OLB and BB's stated opinion of the guy, I'd say he's in absolutely no danger of losing his roster spot.

BB has already hinted that Solder will start there. He said something to the effect that Solder is going to "contribute for us" and that Solder is a LT and that's where he's going to work.

So I would not be surprised that before the season is over, Solder is there and Light has been moved inside.

If you saw the pro-bowl, you saw Light and Mankins being tried out at LG and RG, both. My question is, do you think BB was fooling around? Since when does he fool around when it comes to football?

If he doesn't fool around, explain the trade with Philly?

And Matt Light is going to want Premium $ for a Tackle position, it doesn't seem worth it to resign him, with the plans of moving him to guard, with that kind of Money, Pay Logan!

Those two are very different things. There is no risk of injury by swapping down one pick in the sixth round.

Coaches fool around with player's position all the time at the Pro Bowl.

Belichick has said many times that Light is not a guard. Besides, Light will get a 3-4 deal as a starting LT from someone. I don't think that can be the patriots now. If we were willing to pay LT money for a LG, we'd pay it to Mankins.

So, yes Solder should be expected to start "before the season is over" or even at the start. In either case, we need a backup who knows the system and who dante can count on. If Kaczur is too expensive, then what is Light?
