According to Kevin Lynch's 49er's blog on SFGate.com (Lynch was a 49er beat writer for 7 years, and still does the blog on SFGate, so he is like their Mike Reiss), the Pats and 49ers have shown interest in Spikes:

Granted, it isn't much. It's a long offseason though, so I figured I'd share any crumb, no matter how small.

    #24 Jersey

Now the question is, are we legit in our intrest or is this just some agents smoke screen to try to get the 49ers to bid higher.

Is we could hook Takeo up to the rejuvenation machine for a year, that would bridge us until Ray Ray and James Lauranaitis.

I'm pretty sure that agents are smart enough to not float a team's name unless the team said it was OK to or had actually shown interest. It's not like agents function in a vaccuum, if they piss off a team by mentioning them when they have no business to be doing so they could hamper negotiations with their present and future clients and that team.

Two teams have shown interest and one of them is New England. If no team steps up with a better offer, Spikes would likely sign with San Francisco and be the team's "ted" linebacker next season.

So am I reading this right..? If SF and NE gave him equal offers hed go with SF unless we gave him more money then what they did?

Especially after watching the Pats' crumby perfomance in the SB and the quest for a perfect season go crumbling down.

I don't think it'll be SPikes..more likely Seward,,,or some 2nd tier guy WHO will cost less and be just as good...My view on SPikes is he wishes to be more than just a part of things..and that is OK..not happening here though..I'd like to THINK it would be possible..but I just don't think it will happen..

Agents don't care about that stuff. It's very common for agents and their agencies to quote other teams as interested in a bid to raise the value of clients. Different I know but in soccer it's common for teams to quote interest from other teams to get more money for players, just as agents do.

    It's all about $$$$$$

The only way I see the Pats getting one of those two is if they trade for a 2009 1st rounder from a team that is expected to, well, be teh suck. And that doesn't seem likely.

I fixed your post for you. :)

The patriots should take anything they can get.

    No Jersey Selected

I agree. We're in the market for a starting QB and Trent Dilfer is a free agent. Let's take him!

Talk of 20 million over three years for Spikes.

Way too much for my liking. He's nowhere near as quick as he was either...

Link?? Just curious as to where that 20 mil figure came from..If he's serious about that..the West Coast is where he will be..quite simply...Not a chance at all at that price..
