Of all the things that show the Pats dominance, Pt differential is the most important Look at the top teams in the NFL the playoff teams and those in contention:

Team W L PF PA Diff

Pats 15 0 551 239 + 312

Colts 13 2 440 246 + 194

Cowboys 13 2 449 298 + 151

Steelers 10 5 372 242 + 130

Packers 12 3 401 278 +123

Jags 11 4 383 262 + 121

Hawks 10 5 352 247 + 105

Chargers 9 5 359 264 + 95

Bucs 9 6 311 239 + 72

Vikings 8 7 339 229 + 68

Eagles 7 8 319 291 + 28

Giants 10 5 338 313 + 25

Redskins 8 7 307 297 + 10

Browns 9 6 382 355 + 7

Saints 7 8 354 355 -1

Titans 9 6 285 287 -2

It is AMAZING how much better the Pats are than anyone else in the league, more than 50% better thasn the colts and double the Cowboys! Impressive stuff. Note the teams in the playoff hunt. Philly is the only team with a + pt diff who is eliminated from the playoffs.

The Pats, Colts and Indy have all played 7 games against the other teams on this list.

Point Differential is a slippery statistic because, when a team loses of course, your PD is reduced. So while the difference the Pats have over the Colts and Cowboys is indeed impressive, the biggest factor in this is that these teams each have two losses. That's probably half the difference right there.

The Colts lost by a combined six points. The Cowboys lost by a combined 25. The losses don't really skew their differentials; they haven't been nearly as dominant as the Patriots.

But, how do the ponit differentials compare over the second half of the season? I would guess it's a lot closer. It's as if other teams have improved more than we have over the course of the season.

Except in the last seven weeks no team has won as many games as the Patriots (the Colts do have a six game winning streak, but it hasn't been tremendously "impressive" either).
