Hey Pats fans, I'm new here and planning my first trip to Boston for the Pats/Bengals game on October 7th. A few college buddies and I are coming up for the game and then on Monday we are going to the Cowboys/Bills game for MNF. We are from North Carolina so it's quite a drive but hopefully will be a great weekend.

Since we have never been there I was wondering if you any of you could give your tips and hints on how to get around, etc. I know I'm asking alot so if you don't have time to help it's no problem.

We'll probably come up on Saturday and stay in Boston. I'm thinking about the Roundhouse Best Western on Mass Ave. Is this a good location? We would like to be able to get a feel for downtown Boston and hit up some good bars. If you have recommendations on where to go and what to do I would love to hear them. Also will these hotels be full on these football weekends?

Next I was wondering about tickets. I searched here and found that ebay and some other sites are a good way to go, especially nearer to the game day but there seemed to be some conflict. Should we buy tickets now for $150 a piece or wait till closer to the date of the game and try online? We are all in college so our budget is slightly tight.

Also wondering about parking. It's $40 to park, but do you need a pass already or can anyone show up and park? I read about taking a train from Boston and that is an option, but we would like to tailgate and at least be there early to take everything in.

I appreciate any input guys! Thanks alot and go Pats!

Get on Priceline, put in your price, make sure you hit downtown or backbay, and see where it takes you. Advice: don't drive around Boston. Take the T. It's faster and easier. Hit Fenway, Newbury St, Cambridge (Harvard & Central Square), bars everywhere obviously, maybe Qunicy market (though I avoid that tourist trap like the plague).

I have Buffalo advice if you need any,.

Thanks for the response. We have connections at Best Western so we are hoping to find one near the heart of the city so we can pretty much walk around and get lost, or take the T wherever we want easily. Would love to be close to Fenway. I'll look up some hotels. Newbury St sounds like the place to be.

LOL, I meant Browns at Pats. We were actually considering an Ohio trip also with the Bengals/Pats game but we want to come to MA.

I recommend taking the flight that has the 5 day stopover in the Cayman Islands.

Well our plan is to drive, its a 2000 mile road trip.

Thinking about staying on Longwood at the Best Western, that way we can walk to Fenway, Boylston St, and Newbury.

How do you guys feel about SRO tickets? Is there any difference in them like SRO7 and GA2 "seating?" And how much would you pay for these?

I can give you a list of at least 12 pubs that serve a perfect pint of Guinness.

I dont know the difference between those Standing Room Only tickets. We have season tickets so I know that standing room only are actually great seats if you dont mind standing. You can stand anywhere, even on the lower level 50-yard line. However if you get these tickets arrive early because people will want to stand at the 50. I am pretty sure they dont check your ticket when you stand so I dont think you have to worry about the difference between those standing room only seats.

Thank you, that sounds like a pretty decent idea if it saves us $40 a person.

My other question is about alcohol policies....is it safe to take a flask or airplane bottles into the game or do they pat you down and stuff?

buy your tix on ebay the night before the game.... dont consider anywhere else, unless you have a friend who will hook you up for face.
SRO should be very close to $50 by then... id never pay $100 for SRO.
i usually pay $150 +/- for good lower level seats, the night before the game.... scalpers ALWAYS panic....
if you are staying in boston, go to priceline and you should be able to get a 4* or 3* at the worst for around $100... it's worth it.... dont drive in boston at all, take the T (subway)... i wouldnt try to sneak booze in at all... they def pat you down (although ive had friends get away w it)..... get at the stadium 4 hours before kickoff... park in a stadium lot (i like P2).... meet your neighbors and tailgate with them until 1 hour pregame... then head in, it will take a while.... try to flirt with a beer girl, and get your beer with caps on them (they become priceless in the 4th quarter when no one else has beer)

Don’t stay at the best western roundhouse suites. That’s in Roxbury right near the Boston Medical Center. That’s a bad area and it’s not within walking distance of anywhere you want to go.

The longwood area isn’t bad, but it’s not really in the “heart” of the city. It’s about 2 miles from Fenway and another couple of miles to Newbury Street. There are a couple of women's colleges around Longwood, so there's usually some decent talent. Around Fenway there are some good bars and clubs. Go to Landsdowne St (right next to Fenway). You'll find any kind of bar/club you want. Newbury St is a shopping/people watching place. You can get there easily by the T.

I recommend you that you do go to Quincy Market. It’s a “tourist trap”, but there a bunch of good bars and lots of people, so it's usually a good time.

Thanks Patsworldchamps and Biffman, you are a huge help. If we can get SRO tickets for $50 around game day that would be a huge help. Sounds like we need to wait it out. We definately want to see Fenway but also have a good time in downtown Boston, seems like Longwood gives us that chance. I'm not sure if we'll drive to the game yet or not, but we definately want to get there early and meet new people tailgating, etc.

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it. Would be lost without you guys.

I concur with the priceline comment. I have gotten many many good deals on that site. In fact, i have to fly out to Orange County CA in a few days. If you go to the website of the hotel I'm staying at, you can book an "internet special only" rate of 174 a night. I got mine for 70 a night through priceline.

Anyway, if you're going to Boston, do stay at the backbay hotels, they are close to everything. I haven't been back to that area in a long time, but I went to BU and they have a hotel there in the campus also. It's a short walk to Fenway and the T is right there as well.

If you're going to be out here gameday, how about joining us pats fans on the west coast. OCPF meets at two different locations in OC

    No Jersey Selected

2000 miles??? Are you driving from NC via Chicago? NC to Boston is only about 700 miles, less from many locations. Easy to do in a day if you split up the driving.

Hey that sounds cool. I hope I'll be free during gameday but I may have to sneak out :D . Where do you guys meet? Anything near the Laguna Niguel area?
