Apparently there's a bit of inspirational autobiography on Senator Scott Brown’s official website that was lifted verbatim from Elizabeth Dole’s site, language that originated in a campaign speech.

In a message to students, the Massachusetts senator uses the exact words as remarks delivered by the former North Carolina senator at her campaign kickoff in 2002.

Brown’s staff acknowledged yesterday the words originally were Dole’s and said their presence in Brown’s message was the result of a technical error.

“I was raised to believe that there are no limits to individual achievement and no excuses to justify indifference,” said the message from Brown, which was removed later yesterday. “From an early age, I was taught that success is measured not in material accumulations, but in service to others. I was encouraged to join causes larger than myself, to pursue positive change through a sense of mission, and to stand up for what I believe.”

Aside from the omission of an opening line -- “I am Mary and John Hanford’s daughter” -- in Dole’s speech, the Bay State Republican’s language is the same throughout.

Amazing that the "technical error" somehow managed to remove the "I am Mary and John Hanford's daughter," before being "accidently cut and pasted," isn't it?

And if the numbers 9 9 9 sound familiar - perhaps you played Sim City4 back in 2003.?

Oh sure, smart-ass east coast elitists don't understand taxes because they don't play SIM City... but when the deal comes down and the arcologies all turn into rocket ships and blast off, I want to know what Rick Perry or Michele Bachman would do. We know Herm is ready for any eventuality: Fire, riots, earthquakes, or marauding robotic monsters.

Unfortunately I see no smoking gun here. Brown, like most all politicians, prolly has nearly nothing to do with what's on his web site. Some lazy staffer/volunteer likely deserves 100% of the blame.

He may not, and that may be common, but unless it's a pretty extensive site or regularly changing, he should know what's on it. (That said, he wouldn't have any way of knowing if a staffer plagiarized something they wrote on it.)

I am sure there is a huge range of differences in how each Senator runs his staff, but at the very least there's someone with a title like "Public Affairs Director" reporting to him via his chief of staff... so yeah some web monkey loaded a page, provided by some editorial flunky, but that should be vetted by someone. Somebody signed off on it, unless he accords them a ton of autonomy, and it's somebody trying to lose his editorial flunky or web monkey job.

But if you're trying to lose your job you photoshop a Brown daughter's face onto a porno queen's body or something, you don't do something that has to be researched to be noticed.

Looks like they were just posting up Dole's stuff and hoping nobody would notice. Weird... you'd think after that whole biden/kinnock thing back in the day, this would be a big no-no.

I thought this was going to be about Deval and Obama again

EDIT: I bet Mrs also thinks Shakespeare was amazing for all those original storylines that he wrote plays about

I was going after the fact that the Shakespeare tales have been around much longer than whomever the author was made them popular... great ideas rarely spawn out of thin air... also reminded of "The Social Network"

Darryl, I predict that movie will result in a great deal of spirited debate and discussion among those who love and know the Bard's works on PatsFans.com, in a rollicking thread with five participants, one star, and a shelf-life of two days. :D

Unless we phrase it like this...

    They're "just words". :D

Hard to know who's responsible for words posted on the website. If it ends up it was his decision, then he deserves scrutiny. If the website is run by people in the campaign office, then that person deserves scrutiny. In the end, the buck stops at the bosses desk. The variable is the level of culpability.
