Pittsburgh's Mike Wallace Could Have Been A Patriot Instead of Brandon Tate
    By: Ian Logue

Looking back it's hard to believe that Steelers receiver Mike Wallace could have been catching passes from Tom Brady here in New England....

I was just going to post this thread

Pittsburgh took Wallace the VERY next pick and we ended up with a stiff

What might have been, although he wouldn't have as many opportunities here as he does in Pittsburgh

Still would probably have 600-800 yards receiving every year

The move looks terrible in hindsight, but I was ok with the Patriots taking a flyer on Tate at the time because of the way they had worked the board for extra picks and focused on important positions. I considered Tate a luxury pick and didn't really worry about the other players taken behind him. I remember a lot of others losing their minds when Tate was taken, though, so they got it right.

I've certainly been wrong on my share of prospects but I loved Wallace coming out and couldn't believe they took Tate. When the Steelers took him with the next pick I thought man does that suck.

That said...........Who knows in NE if he would have been able to make the right reads or if he would have fizzled out like others who couldn't get on the same page as Brady. Vrabel in Pitt a backup, in NE a Pro-Bowler..........

I disagree this one. the steelers threw him in there from start and let him develop. do you think if he was here they would let him play and learn on the job,.

he could not run any routes in yr 1 and was very limited. he got better in that offseason after a tough year. i can assure you bill will never throw him in there to learn.

How is a definite fail on our team > a definite success on another?

Is Brandon Tate still playing football or has he moved on to his next career?

This pick and the Matthews bypass pisses me off Lol

You can't argue that these 2 players would make our team that much better

Pretty sure at the time I was excited about the Tate pick at the time. I can't remember what the knock was on Wallace, if any back then.

That said - obviously it's a huge missed opportunity for the team looking back on it. Could you imagine this offense with Wallace...yikes.

Mmhm...he was playing behind Holmes and Ward and still had 800 yards and 6 TDs. Stretched the field and made plays.

Damn Brandon Tate...never liked him nor understood what his defenders saw in him.

    +Matthews likely means —GRONK.

On the whole, that's a wash.

He's the top man for the Bengals on special teams. Their starting kick and punt returner. He's doing pretty well with both of those jobs. Who knows if he ever figures out the receiving side of things, but at least he's one of the better returners in the league.

    No Jersey Selected

Not to throw more salt on this one, but didn't the Packers select Jennings with the 3rd round pick that NE gave them in order to move up to draft Chad Jackson. :bricks:
