Certain minerals can cause the water to turn brownish (iron etc.). Though it might not look good, the water quality could be still be perfectly OK. If you are really concerned, look in your yellow pages under WATER COMPANIES-Bottled/Bulk: Many of these companies allow you to draw their high quality spring water, at their site, with your containers/or rent theirs, for a cost that is pennies on the dollar ($1.25 for a 5 gallon container) cheaper when compared to retail.
