This team had veterans, both Pats and from other teams as well (Smith, Cox), and some unsung youngsters, which was built to win from shrewd offseason moves, the notable exception being Bledsoe's contract extention. The disappointment from the week 1 loss at Cincy was exceeded only by the devastation of 9/11. The team was absolutely headed nowhere with Bledsoe in there, and starting in week 3 they had the chance to show what they could do. The term, "you make your own luck" applies, as they took advantage of just about every fortuitous bounce of the ball, and instead of getting star-struck, Brady just got more determined as time went on-as he continues to, today. I can't think of any player on that team who did not make an important contribution, and while people like to rate this as among the less talented champions, by the end of the season they were playing better than anybody else. In all three phases, they made big plays when they needed to.

Amazing to think how important a cog Terry Glenn was considered at the beginning of that championship year. I bet most casual Pats fans don't even remember him being on that year's team.

From the photo, no. Nor, obviously, was Vinatieri (still playing) or Vrabel (coaching).
