riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. A team like the Patriots that plays things as close to the vest as they do is going to reveal their intent outside their own FO so that a 'league source' will know their intent. I smell a disinformation campaign to get the player they really want........
id be a very happy man
Thanks for the new and intriguing news, but isn't this draft forum material? I posted it in the draft forum already 20 minutes ago.
That would be tremendous.
I'd jump for joy, but now that the entire league knows the Pats are interested in this guy, he'll go at 15. uggh!!
According to Ian, draft material is fair game on the main board within a week before the draft.
I would be very Happy, Harris is a great prospect for ILB duty in the 3-4.
He is a very good player.
It was leaked the week before the draft that we were very interested in Ty Warren before the 2003 draft. So it isn't outside the realm of possibility of this report being true.
where theres smoke..theres fire
As well it should be, and I'm no draftnik.
Bring it ON people!
Well if we did....this is the only picture I found of him on google. Kind of cool.
Yeah - I don't think he'll be there... though looking at the mocks it doesn't seem like there's the traditional run on LBs that there normally is. Lots of WRs coming off the board, DEs etc...
I think a quality LB will be there for the taking - even in the 2nd if the Pats trade down.
Unfortunately I think if they want their type of Safety they will need to move up - THAT's where the run on position players is taking place this year (and no one's convinced me yet that Merriweather can behave either)
That doesn't read to me as them saying they have a source who knows it will happen, just a source who thinks it will. In other words, the difference between them having a source with the Patriots saying it vs. a source who expects the Patriots will. Sounds like a team who always puts Harris in at #28 on their mocks because if they were the Patriots it's the right guy.
I'd be happy if the Pats took Harris, but not in the first round.
I'll need another piece of paper.
This one's filled up with all the teams they had Randy Moss traded to.
Incase you didnt notice we dont have a 2nd round pick and our third round pick is almost a fourth round pick.
why? Hes a early 2nd prospect..and he fits our scheme better than any LB in draft
his question was speed and he proved he can run
So why don't we take a player that is a 1st round prospect? I can understand the pick if no one else falls to the Pats.
because he fits better than Willis..Beason..Timmons. Hes safer..hes a thumper. Hed play like Ted Johnson. Hes a late 1 prospect to some but was a 2nd before 40.
believe me..i like Beason-Willis-Timmons more but Harris is a much better fit or a "safer" one
How disappointing, there's only two LB's I like out of the whole lot and they're both from MI. As far as safety, don't be surprised if they take an undersized LB and convert him slowly behind Wilson.
Not every player taken in the 1st round will be a "1st round prospect." Every year you hear of teams saying they only had 19 or 20 prospects graded into the 1st round.
I read that one team last season graded Jay Cutler as a 2nd rounder and Vince Young as a 3rd rounder.
No matter who we take, there will be teams that would have waited longer, and there will definately be players taken before us that we would have waited on.
A lot of teams will take a player early if they feel he wont be there in the next round if they really need the position filled. The Pats did that with Mankins because they knew the team a couple picks later needed an OL. (I forget which team it was, maybe Seattle or SF) I think the Seahawks took Tatupu early too.
You are correct on Tatupu he was projected about 3-4
Intresting points you made there about the QB's. What about Alex Smith in 2005? Many scouts didn't think he was that great either and if he entered the 2006 draft, he would have been a 2nd round prospect at best. If the Pats indeed take Harris, I will trust their decsion because they obviously know more that us and seen more film than us. Harris would be a nice addition.
Cool pic, isn't that Maroney that he's tackling?
FWIW, I heard an ESPN analyst on the radio say a team front office guy told him that his team had 12 players with first round grades this year. He also said all calls his team was getting were from teams in the teens trying to trade out of round 1.
