Gotta love it
You know I do!!!
It is refreshing...
It is ironic that Florio, who was one of the worst bashers of the Patriots earlier on, has seen the light in how there is a real effort from ESPN and the NYT to bash the Patriots unjustly and try to manufacture controvesy to keep this thing going.
I think he see's that it is nothing, and the Pats were punished, but media hounds like Espn and NYT wont let it die... And now is starting to see there is a anti pats biased.
I'm happy that Florio called him out. He's a hypocrite and an ape.
On another note, it is HIGHLY entertaining reading Broncos fans comments. This is exactly why others opinions do not matter. These kind of fans are truly ignorant and biased and in complete denial.
There is a big problem with Florio's article. He says
Schlereth has, in fact, mentioned the Broncos from 1996-1998 and claimed that they didn't actually cheat on the salary cap. They just "didn't know they couldn't push so much money into the future." What Schlereth described was the Broncos cheating.
i wish he had mentioned brady called espn mtv ...
Wow, I bet Schlereth believes ignorance of the law allows you innocence as well.
I love the fact that Broncos fans buy the Broncos lines after they got caught that they didn't mean to cheat the cap, but they needed extra cash because they were building Investco field and the extra cap room was just an unexpected benefit (and they considered it no competitive advantage). Yet, they will not believe anything Belichick or the Patriots say in their defense.
Personally, I think Belichick was less than forthcoming with his interpretation of the rules, but I think he was truthful about the important parts like what he did and how he used it. I think the Broncos knew what they were doing and took advantage of it even if part of the reason they were doing it was to get extra cash.
Funny though, five years later Kraft financed his own stadium and spent three and a half times of his own personal money than Pat Bowlen did and he didn't need to restructure contracts (legally or illegally) to get it done. The league usually are quick to hand out large low interest loans to whoever builds a stadium. The Giants and Jets just got a $300 million loan from the NFL to build their stadium in December.
Schlerith should not throw stones in a glass house...
Florio is a scumbag who leads the tar and feather committees every chance he can, and gins up controversies where there are none, just to drum up hits for his sites. Now that the 'spygate' fire has been quenched, he'll act as if everyone else was the problem and he's the solution.
Godell and the media have bashed BB for claiming he mis-interpreted the rule regarding taping defensive signals. Schlereth is making the exact same argument it isn't cheating if you don't know your cheating. Now they will use Walsh's comments that he was told to be careful as proof that the Pats knew what they were doing was wrong.
By this point we all know the responses to these excuses. Throw some of these beauties at them:
1. If it was no big deal then why did the Broncos cheat? They must have gained some advantage from it else why take the risk?
2. If it wasn't cheating then why were they fined so heavily? And this wasn't a fine handed down by a new commish trying to make his mark in the midst of a media firestorm. This was three years after it happened during the offseason when nobody was paying attention by tagliabue.
3. And don't forget the always effective. "Where there is smoke there is fire". That is a nice little catch all that sounds good although means little. Shannahan is wierd, he must be guilty. Burn him!
4. Throw in some * and a few Cheatroncos and call it a night. Tell them how everyone, or at least all Raiders fans, believe that they cheated their way to their two measly superbowls.
These are just a few easy points of cirular logic that can "prove" almost anything you like. If you need more just scan the posts of trolls here for more talking points. Heck just copy Football Fenetics posts and just change Belichick to Shanahan, signals to Cap room and video to creative accounting.
unfortunately only Nixon an go to China.
"Moreover, if the purpose of the taping was only to use it in the same game, why did the taping continue into the second half?"
Of course, you COULD want to tape it to determine if a team changed their signals at halftime. Of course, if you were using info in-game, it would seem that simple observation of second half signals and subsequent plays might tell you if signals were changed.
Ultimately, if we ask that question, why not just ask why do it at all? "1%" of what you do, yet it was obviously pretty well orchestrated.
If you have your most trusted peer viewing these tapes (Ernie Adams), why would you waste his time? Certainly, it had a definite purpose, and was deeper and more extensive than anyone in the NFL Front Office or the Pats organization cares to admit.
The fact that Walsh was cautioned about not getting caught illustrates the organization knew they were going about this the wrong way.
Alas, it appears it all is over, which in the end is a good thing. Congrats for not being busted even bigger time, and good luck in '08, no one will be rooting for you
See above for the "blueprint" in action. I like the added one at the end there. "no one will be rooting for you." That one is a cleaver one since it is 100% true. Then again it will be 100% true for every other team as well. Its not like fans of opposing teams root for your team afterall.
It shows how little he knows about football. Now I'm a coach of basketball, but I can easily see how the film was used and why teams were taken who they only played once that year. Coach BB is more thorough then most. They taped all signals, after the game put it in a data base. Kept records on every coach. Tried to decipher when they changed signals, and how many types of signals were used. Had people with radios and binoculars refering to this data base. Then stealing signs from legal use.
It is quite simple to figure out, and I would say ingenious by coach BB..
It is legal, except for the spot in which they taped the signals. Why did coach not use high tech cameras for the same purpose from the stands? Think about this closely. The same end would be achieved and never noticed.
I really think he felt justified, and safe that nothing ould happen.
I guess it was easier for Meathead Schlereth to pile on the Pats like everyone else, instead of talking to the facts and the information that the Commish presented yesterday.
I'm glad the ordeal is over and we can move on. I'm all but done with ESPN programming at this point.
Sounds like all that MUST entail more than 1% of your total prep time, doesn't it? And, more involved, detailed, and integral than BB let on. But, what else would you expect from the great one?
