WASHINGTON — At the very moment when President Barack Obama is looking to thrust the U.S. ever more into global affairs, from Afghanistan to climate change, the American public is turning more isolationist and unilateralist than it has at any time in decades, according to a new poll released Thursday.

The survey by the Pew Research Center found a plurality of Americans — 49 percent — think that the U.S. should "mind its own business internationally" and leave it to other countries to fend for themselves.

Do not disagree at all... we need to know our limits, while not compromising our security...

Think humanitarian efforts should increase, and military expenditures should be cut significantly...

Given the poor execution of both wars, who can blame them? That said, isolationism is no longer a valid option in today's world.

Absolute isolationism isn't possible, but we certainly don't need hundreds of bases across the globe, and billions given away in foreign aid. We can maintain influence, and worry about ourselves at the same time.

    Consider this:

There are 700+ military bases, consider the logistics of supplying them.

In the US alone there are 4,135 bases to supply, maintain and take care of..

Right now there are 104,000 defense contractors in Afganistan... there will be an increase when we send 30+ more troops.

The military budget takes 54% of our budget dollar, and 1/3 of that is for "legacy costs"...
