Reiss had this petition(not his) below featured in his blog. Found it interesting wish had much more details but overall cannot disagree. While hiring from within is nice at this point it wont work because even if at best the unknown coach becomes successful he will be taken anyway from another team next season. At worst we just experienced so no need to go there. Some experience at the positions cannot hurt.

One of this petitions 9 points.

Interesting to see somebody start one, although, I'm not too sure it's going to make much of a difference at all.

This will count for 0.00000000% of BB's decision.

All this accomplishes is completing Reiss' transition from damn good little beat reporter to moronic mediot working for ESPN. I never put much stock in Mike's opinions. Just his timely access to factual information. This kind of blogging just reinforces that decision for me. His value niche was based on insight he was spoon fed and access he was granted for being devoid of agendas. That ship has sailed. Now he's just another ****amamie talking head who thinks he and his twitter fans may have a better handle on what this team that has won more games and championships than any other in this decade needs to do and they'd be well served to listen up. LOL

IBBWT may have become an overly simplistic fan mentality for some, but calling for the organization to heed petition posting fan demands is beyond simplistic, it's delusional.

Seriously... I agree with the gist of it, but I think BB is smart enough to know that he needs to change SOMETHING in the coaching/cooridnator deparment or this team is going nowhere fast. 1 and out in the playoffs should be a stinging enough incentive to BB to make changes without needing any petition.

I think what Bill now hopefully knows is he needs to change some things in the talent + winning matters attitude evaluation department. Hopefully he will address those in the draft and FA.

The biggest counterargument to the premise behind the petition is 2007. They didn't win the SB and Vince Lombardi would say (and he'd be right) that that's everything. But a bounce this way or that, and 2007 would been the greatest team that ever played the game. Long after Weis and Crennel left.

McDaniels was promoted from within. Dom Capers came from outside.

Do we want to mimic the Redskins and stock the team with outside coaching talent? What's that done for them? Dungy personally backed Jim Caldwell. He's doing all right for himself.

Honestly, I don't see a pattern. For this fan, the only answer is to trust the folks that have the information. And that ain't me.

If BB needs fan based petitions to advise him how best to improve the team's chances of returning to the superbowl.... I would not want him as a coach anymore

JC, if this is symbolic of what Mike Reiss has become, it's a pity. Is it just me, or does ESPN do this type of thing to everyone who goes there?

Some changes are needed in the whole organization thats what good companies do. They are constantly self evaluating there business model. I think the Pats fell in love with VALUE and underestimated having play makers which usually relates to high salaries specifically bonus money which comes right from the owners pockets maybe I'm wrong but to go outside of your organization means paying hefty salaries. It's a joke if people thought that Rak or Weiss would come back here they were among the lowest paid coordinators when they were here do you think they would have come back now that they have the taste of big time cash.

Disclaimer - I email Mike Reiss several times during the year.

All Mike did was mention the petition in his blog. He did not endorse the petition. He did not create the petition. As far as I can tell,
Signatures - Hire Great Coordinators For The New England Patriots
he did not sign the petition.

Mike blogged about it because he cared about what a fan thought about "the Patriots' offensive and defensive coordinator jobs". How dare a member of the media be interested in about what we fans think???

Mike opined "My sense is that fans are watching closely as to how the Patriots fill these spots and that a hire from outside the organization would be welcome because it would represent new ideas after a disappointing end to the 2009 season. "

Are fans watching closely as to how the Patriots fill these spots??
Would fans be happier with a outside hire or with internal hire??

Bingo. I don't get how this turned into Reiss is our enemy now thread. Is he supposed to stay clear of anything that's not the company lines for the pats? I don't get the reaction to that post. That was not his opinion he just brought that forth to say that the fans are watching closely. That's all it was. And we are aren't we? Look at all the coordinator threads... Some of you need to step back and re-read that post again.

Must reject opposition....Must not read dissenting views........

Seriously, whether it's over the top it's worth reading. Of course we can all continue drifting down an Egyptian river.

I guess everybody here thinks we make great half time adjustments? Show of hands.

Of course we can't have an outside OC because we can't change our timing offense.

Did you see a timing offense this year? I saw Brady stares at Moss waiting for him to get open then finds Welker running around improvising and hits him.

That's not a timing offense folks.

In this slow time for Patriots news, Mike is just spooning out what is out there. His role is to provide content. And if you haven't noticed lately, major media outlets are relying more on opinion pieces...that get reprinted on multiple sites. I trust Mike because he worked his ass off giving fans actually info about the team, not soap opera blogging. His role has changed somewhat, but I don't expect a Felgerization of his work...which is a good thing.

As to the petition, this line was effective.

" Every year since we see Coach Belichick tell the media that "we were out-coached" after a loss with increasing regularity."

I said it at the time and I'll say it again, moving to ESPN is a big mistake by Reiss. He used to be the number one beat reporter for the number one paper in the area, now he's just another one of a hundred bloggers at the bloated ESPN.com. Reiss doesn't have the on-air personality (nor the expertise, but sadly that doesn't seem to matter for ESPN) to become a regular on-air contributor.

ESPN may being paying Reiss more, but those sources are going to gravitate towards other places.

I don't have any problem at all with the content. It was the petition silliness to which I took exception. I mean, the idea that fans should petition the team about coaching personnel decisions is about on par with a middle school petition to the food services director to change the lunch menu offerings. For chrissakes...

    Disable Jersey

    :agree::agree:

I remember thinking back in the past: well, maybe it's a good thing that Charlie and Romeo are moving on. The Pats will get new co-ordinators and fresh thinking to keep ahead of the pack.

I personally think that the Redskins' idea -- pay top money to get top co-ordinators and let Gibbs be Chairman of the Board -- could have worked if they hadn't also had a dysfunctional front office.

But BB has shown a huge preference for internal hires and, as you say, there are good reasons for that. Above all, he wants coherence of vision throughout the organization. That's also a reason why BB keeps the coaching staff small. Does that come at a price? Of course. Does BB know this and try to do something about it (for example, by pumping his buddies around the game for new ideas and, I assume, having a lot of frank conversations with Ernie Adams)? Of course!
