Peter King describes some formations in his article... i thought the patriots banned reporters who reported on that stuff?

Peter just proved how easy he is... Maybe he should ask himself each week before he writes his column whether he has any concrete basis on which to opine about what he thinks he knows other than he just thinks it at the moment and it's time to file the column.

It's obvious he thinks this offense will be tough to stop. But I love the caveat that he still doesn't know how we stop the Colts... Well seeing as we stopped them pretty good for most of the first half when last we met, I'd say adding Thomas, Harrison and Seau to that defense, not to mention how those offensive additions should limit Sanders time in the box and extend his time on the bench is how, Peter.

Did one mini camp practice really completely change his mind?

One part of that article bothered me, the part where it said on some plays the Pats receivers are being put in non-ideal places (Welker sprinting on the outside, Moss in the slot running an in-route, etc).

McDaniels needs to stop being cute and just put players in the best position where they will excel. Only McDaniels can screw up this juggernaut offense this year.

Versatility will only make the offense better. They aren't going to assign a certain type of route to each receiver that they exclusively run. That is just not how this offense works and it never has worked that way.

You might as well change that to : "Only Belichick can screw up this juggernaut offense this year" as he hired McDaniels, stuck with him and still has a significant say on the gameplan and playcalling.

So, yeah, only a sure fire hall of fame coach can blow this season for us.

The Pats will have to put up 30 points a game to win?? IMO the D gives up fewer points this year.

    He means against the Colts.

When the starters were on the field last year the Colts offense couldn't do squat. It's when the back ups started coming in that things started to fall apart. And in some cases it was the back-ups back-ups (safety.)

I still disagree with him on the Indy thing especially if Samuel is playing. As always, not trying to make excuses - but with Harrison, Wilson, Gay, Colvin, Seau all out last year (Colvin in the 2nd half) and with us adding Meriweather, it's easy to imagine our defense doing a lot better this year unless injuries strike again.

How do you know that it won't work at times? How do you know that the idiot McDaniels is not doing exactly what BB wants him to do? I suspect that he is.

Could we hold the attacks on McDaniels until we actually see what's called in game situations. I suppose the attacks will start in the pre-season games. But, to start now based on a article is just a little too early.

I thought that the McDaniels bashing was over when you know who left. But, I"m sure there will be some who will want the title of "NEM lite" this year

Part of what made Charlie Weis so good was his unpredictability. People now say "just line them up in their positions", wait until we lose a game doing that and the same people will be asking about why we aren't creative enough

If our offense has the year we expect, then I think we will have a problem at Offensive Coordinator next year - replacing McDaniels who has been hired as a Head Coach somewhere else.

Its not like that is going to be the base formation. Take an example where the pats are 2nd and short midfield. The D expects a normal passing play, and has the typical nickel or dime package. Then they realize that Moss is in the slot, Watson on the far outside, and Welker on the other outside. Confusion. Moss does a quick out, goes for 50 yards :)

    its pure genius.

    I'm not sure....

    >>>>6. I still worry about the defense's ability to get off the field on third down. Particularly against Peyton Manning. They're not alone, of course. But it's dangerous when you know your offense is probably going to have to score in the high 30s to beat anyone, and that's how I see New England's chances against Indy right now.

Does he really think the NE defense is that bad?????????

By anyone he means "insert certain teams name here" and that team he is talking about is the Colts.

I totally disagree with your take on King's quote. Why wouldn't he just say Colts if he meant Colts? Anyone means anyone.

zippo59 is correct, he means "anyone" pointed at Indy as he continues the sentence with "and that's how I see New England's chances against Indy right now".

He's saying specifically against Indy and the "anyone" means it's tough to feel confident against anyone (read : no matter how bad their defense may be) when you need to score so many points.
