....on his strength of team list. King has the Patriots missing the playoffs.
    I love it!!
It's amazing how many mediots completely discount how much improved the Patriots are going to be next year simply because of the improved health of Tom Brady, Jerod Mayo, the entire backfield, a happy Vince Wilfork ready to lead that room and the removal of the metastatic cancer aka Adalius Thomas. The Patriots are a better team BEFORE we add the quality players they drafted who will make an impact on this team. Love the TE's, Brandon Spikes and that kicker has a real shot a making a big difference in the Pats special teams which is badly needed.
The Patriots won their division last season and come into this year a much stronger team on and off the field in my opinion. Hoping every mediot counts out this group.

Power rankings are for entertainment purposes. I think King's power ranking is pretty bad and has nothing to do with where he ranks the Pats. There are about a dozen teams I think he has far too low or too high. But at this point, I don't know how I can prove I am any more right than him.

I do think King is betting on potential more than production on a lot of the top 10 teams. Personally, in the top 10 alone, I think he has the Packers, Chargers, Miami, Jets, Carolina, and the Giants too high (some way too high). The fact he has the Packers at #1 kinda discredits his power ranking in my eyes. I think the Packers could be top 10, but #1?

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Peter King the one who made the bold prediction of the Colts not making the playoffs last year???

I also dont understand the love of the Panthers... The jets miami and the Pats should be jumbled up together no team is head and shoulders above each other..

    King lost credibility with....

    >>>>>For instance, with the Ravens having such a major tight-end need this year, you'd think Florida's Aaron Hernandez slipping into the fourth round would have set off alarm bells in the Ravens' draft room. But no -- Baltimore instead took tight end Ed Dickson of Oregon over Hernandez, and then another TE, Dennis Pitta of BYU right after New England chose Hernandez. Simple scouting preference? Maybe. <<<<<

without mentioned that the Pats traded with Denver to move up in the 4th round (Hernandez) and jump the Ravens (as they did earlier) to pick a player that likely WAS on the Ravens draft board...

This team - against a tough schedule - led about 90% of its games going into the final quarter. It has lost no contributing members to the 2009 squad (and has, in fact, jettisoned a negative locker room presence), and has added 12 rookies, as well as seen 12 rookies from last year continue to develop.

The logical conclusion would be that if it can fix its 4th quarter woes, that rather than take a step back, they'll take a step forward and get back into the top tier of teams like the Colts and Saints.

He also has Green Bay at #1. Carolina at #8. Seattle at #11, Minnesota at #13.

I'm less offended that he has the Pats at #14 since the rest of his list is complete crap.

Eh, I wouldn't get all bent out of shape about it. Right now we're in the NFL dead zone with very little to write about. Who's going to read an article about power rankings if all the teams are ranked pretty much where they were last year.

So he goes out on a few limbs to shake things up and spark discussion. No big deal.

Personally, I think King wants to either be controversial or wants to make daring picks so he will look like a genius if they come true. Looking at most offseason Power Rankings, they are far different from Kings from top to bottom.

If the Raiders DO end up as #28, it means the Pats have the #5 pick in the 2011 draft...Hope at least he's right on that one...

Agree completely. Despite all the bashing this defense got (and justifiably so in many cases) last season it was the offense and their inability to simply get a 1st down in the 4th quarter that cost them multiple road games last season. They were also bad in the red zone. Those athletic pass catching TE's are going to help in the red zone a great deal. A Tom Brady lead offense is not going to struggle on the road and in the 4th qtr of games 2 years in a row, an offense lead by a HOF QB who is now very healthy and very motivated coming into the 2010 season.
I want the whole world to underestimate the Patriots coming into 2010.

I can't see why this is a big deal he says in the first paragraph he sucks at power ranking and even points out his mistakes from last year with the Bears and Saints. King is a journalist/columnist who get's stories from his connections, not a coach or talent evaluator. This is what I will call an off season filler piece.

I will put him in the sometimes entertaining, sometimes informative, usually full of himself category of mediots.

Although it is too early to say anything, it seems like we have a relatively easier schedule this year, even with the Thanksgiving game thrown in.

I think we make the playoffs. However we have seen lately that just showing up to a big game is less important than actually winning that game! :D

    #11 Jersey

This guy has seen the Pats win over and over again. This is a time where we are facing all these questions about our player's age, health and other things like the pass rush. After a dominating decade, everyone would like to see the Patriots die out but that is just unlikely at this point in time.

I don't think our schedule is any easier really, but at least some of our tougher games are at home this year. Last year it seemed like every tough game was on the road.

Well, I think King pretty well describes exactly what this is worth:

"Last year, I really distinguished myself. Picked the Bears to make the Super Bowl. Picked the Saints 24th in the league...Sean Payton walked up to his podium to meet the press after the [SB] game, saw me, and said: 'Not bad for number 24.'"

The only thing I know for sure is that picking Green Bay as number one will turn up the heat on Lord Favregaard to return.

And, it's hard to disagree with him when he writes:

"Make no mistake about it: There's more pressure on Rex Ryan than on any other coach in football this year."

As for the rest...given King's own self-assessment, it's really not worth the time or bandwidth to reply...
