Peter King was just on Toronto’s talk radio the Fan590, Boston’s EEI equivalent, and he talked about his recent article regarding the Patriots.
Here are a few things he touched upon:
    - felt AD was the best defensive player available.
-Believes that Welker was an even bigger pick up than Stallworth. He feels Welker will turn into something special.
-He didn’t offer too much hype towards Stallworth because he feels the guy still has a lot to prove and has some past troubles.
-He talked about why the Patriots always seem to be winners and the class of the NFL. He mentioned that AD, Stallworth took significantly less to play with Brady and for Belichick. He also said that Welker is the happiest guy alive because all he wants to do is win. He also said that Welker took less to play here.
    - Said that the lone additions of Welker and AD put the pats ahead of the colts and chargers.

Remains to be seen......we whooped it up when the Patriots signed David Terrell, anybody seem to remember that one? What about the Starks deal, we shouted hooray on that one too?

Let's take the wait and see approach.

Why was he talking about the Patriots while doing a spot in Toronto. Probably should have been talking about the Bills or Lions. Did the radio host ask him about the Pats specifically or was this an open ended question about who he feels improved the most so far. Is this the same Fan 590 that will be televised later today on Sportsnet?

I don't recall that we "whooped it up". Stallworth may have a great deal to prove in this league, but he's done a hell a lot more than David Terrell ever managed.

We certainly took Terrell with skepticism.

Look, I'm a skeptic by nature but when these guys change from paper additions to actual new talent on the field then it won't remain to be seen . . . it will be seen all the way to Arizona.

    Welker Defenitley Benifited Financially.

I don't know what he's talking about, if the pats didn't trade for him, he wouldn't be making as much as he is now.

I wouldn't expect a bidding war for him but I don't think you can make your statement so definitively - there could have been teams offering more but Welker chose the Patriots. Just like with Franchised players, it takes two to tango in the RFA world so he had his pick of teams as long as that chosen team could get it worked out.

Its a national broadcast. He was asked who is winning the free agent signings. You want him to say the Bills or Lions are doing well?

I heard nothing about Welker taking less money. King said that he expected Welker to be the best WR signing. I am starting to think that Saban had something to do with this.

Peter King's on the show every Thursday talking about whatever's current in the NFL. The Pats have been the leading (football) story since free agency began.

The Bills deservedly get quite a bit of coverage in T.O., but the Lions?? Not sure if I have ever heard anyone in Toronto talk about them even once. Maybe in the cities closer to the Michigan border, but I'm not sure that any clear-thinking Canadian would claim much kinship with them these years. Of course, I am not a native.

Is this the televised version that will be shown later tonight on Roger's Sportsnet. I think the host of the show is Bob McCowan?

I was looking at it from a proximity standpoint - Detriot is closer to Toronto than Boston is to Toronto.

to be honest I didn't think David Terrell was the next coming of Jerry Rice or anything, but since Brady was his teammate in college, and the Patriots trainer went on record saying Terrell reminds him of Michael Irvin (who he trained in Dallas) it made me think he could put up at least somewhat decent numbers in NE. When NE signed Duane Starks I looked at his numbers from Baltimore and remembered how good he had played at one point, but then looked at how bad he had been in Arizona, so I wasn't to sure about that one. I thought it could have gone either way, but I didn't think he would suck as bad as he did:)]

Welker, Stallworth, and AD are different stories for me. I didn't care about getting David Terrell, or Duane Starks before NE signed them. But, I wanted Welker all season long and made threads during the '06 season talking about wanting him on the Patriots, and how he would be the perfect fit. Stallworth was on my radar before the '06 season as well, and I wanted NE to trade for him when the Saints were shopping him around. I liked AD, and when I heard his comments about BB at the PB I was really interested in signing him, then when the Ravens didn't franchis him I thought it could happen. I thought AD would be to expensive though, which is why I didn't think it would happen.

When King said Welker took less money to sign the Patriots, he didn't mean literally that he had better offers from other teams, or that he would get less money than he would in his undrafted rookie's contract.

King means only that, when negotiating a contract w/ NE, he accepted a lower offer than he might have somewhere else -- that is to say, he gave NE a discount because he wanted the deal to go through.

Considering the market for WRs of late, Welker could have gotten a lot more if he'd played out his last year in Miami -- of course, I'm sure the fact that, as an undrafted player, the security of getting his first big-league signing bonus a year earlier factored in, too.

It is the televised/radio version, however, the televised version only shows an hour of the show. McCowan only mentions King as a guest in the show. So I don't think the televised version will have the interview.

    #12 Jersey

In 2001 when the Pats were drafting, I was one of the guys jumping up and down for David Terell , and we know how that turned out.. Then I was reserved but happy we signed him in 2005 , but saw him in camp and was not impressed, plus saw a lazy faire attitude .. Glad we did not get him, but Im sold on stallworth, and washington so far with thier attitudes..

 What? Nobody "whooped it up." The Patriots made no financial commitment whatsoever to Terrell. He was brought in to see if they could catch lightening in a bottle, and he was jettisoned with minimal cap impact.

    Apples and oranges.
